    1) A turning point is a time in which things change in a very important way than how it was before, making the event or course in life historical.

2)A turning point I have leared in Global History 1 and 2 in my Freshman year is the change from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. The Middle Ages was a time where everytthing there was to life was involving religion, for example diseases where thought to be because of wrong doing and not following religion. The time of church and prays,no one really had an opinion to why else things where the way they were because they were brainwashed with religion.Renaissance was the time of recreation;inventing or creating new things as well as drawing, learning and discovering more things and reasons to life. When the Renaissance came it was a time in which people did not have to be curious no more to others reasons of life or having to be part of religion they didn't want be in but it was a time of people viewing things for themselves and what they beieved and what they felt passionate for.
3)Siddhartha thought everything in life was different and had there own ways to life, the thought that gave him the attitude and feeling that he still had to find his true bliss calling. One day Vasuveda and him watched the river and Vasuveda told him to view the river, this gave Siddhartha an epiphany that all things to life were one and the same.(p.119) With Siddhartas epiphany he had a change of everything, he had figured out that the bliss he was looking for was already with him, When he saw the river he was confident and sure that all to life may have semt different as if each had a purpose to life, but he knew they all had the purpose of being there in life and giving something to it to keep it going. So when he qouted, "...One mans treasure can be anothers trash."(p.126) He meant all things may be different to a person and a religion may be right to one but not to another but each define all person to being the same and wanting or believing something, what they don't see is what they know and have is their true bliss that they haven't or already found. It made Siddhartha see all religion, things, and people the same and gave him a teaching.

    1) A turning point is a critical point when the course of events is changed.
2)In Global History, one turning point we learned about was the developement of river valley civilizations. This was the beginning of people settling down and forming communites. People settled in places where they could easily farm, be able to fish, access fresh water and fertile soil. Generally, the first civilzations were formed next to rivers (such as the Nile River). Eventually, this evolved into the world we live in today, with cities, buisnesses, etc.
    3) A turning point in Siddhartha's life was when he met the Buddha. Govinda had joined the Buddha, and Siddhartha had not. This was a turning point for him because, they had been together pretty much their whole lives. They always did everything with each other by their side. Siddhartha is finally given the oppurtinity venture out into the world and discover himself on his own.

1.A turning point is a time in history when a very significant change occurs and it can also be a time when things change for the better.
2.An important turning point in global history is when Martin Luther grew tired of the Catholic Church and their sale of indulgences. He created the 95 Theses and he used the printing press to print copies of it. Martin Luther posted these on the churches and the Protestant Reformation had begun. This caused people to become Protestants and a new religious branch was formed. This was the cause for Protestant churches and the Catholic Church then formed a Counter Reformation. This caused the church to gain back some power and to forever change its ways.
3.An important turning point in Siddhartha's life is when he becomes a samana. This changes his life forever since it changed Siddhartha's beliefs and his way of life. An example of this is when he gives up his desires.

I agree with Victor Acevedo about Martin Luther changing the way of religious things, Church would take advantage and say that they had to give money to church so there sins would be gone and more. When Martin Luther gave his 95 thesis he gave people the chance to really think and see their opinions on what was going on. That was another great impact on histe it changed peoples views on religious things as well as changing ways of the church, and ofcoure before all this happened church rebelled against him doing the Counter Reformation which meant they got to talk for thereselves and try to gain their position back, like Victor said.

Adding on to what Carol said, yes Govinda chose to stay with the Buddha and be one of his disciples.(p.29)While being with Govinda it sort of gave Siddhartha that feeling of being corrected or keeping him in place which didn't give him that real opportunity to explore and find what he was truly looking for. I agree with her and the turning point because of what she said, " Siddhartha is finally given the oppurtinity venture out into the world and discover himself on his own."

    1) A turning point can be an accomplishment but its a point in life where you make a drastic change. I disagree with victor on how he says a turning point is a time in history because a turning point can happen any day for someone, it's not just history but can be the present for some people.
2)A turning point in global history is when the middle ages and renaissance art started to change. In the middle age art was very religious and so were the people. In the renaissance people were more open to not just religion but their art being more creative and about their everyday life.
3)A turning point in Siddhartha's is when he decides he is going to leave his house to become a samana . "tomorrow at daybreak, i will begin the life of the samanas" (p.8). This is a turning point because now he will experience many things he never knew about. Siddhartha felt that everyone had to find the primal source in themselves. A samanas had passed through his town and now Siddhartha was going to begin following his path and his destiny was starting to sprout. He was going to go on a journey and that was a turning point for him.(p.8)

    1. A turning point is an event that changes things forever. Mostly turning points are referred to in history. It can be a point or event in time that can change the future.

    2. One major turning point in history was the Neolithic Revolution. That was the time when people stopped being nomads to settle down and discover farming. This was the dawn of human civilization.

3.A turning point in Siddhartha's life was when he met Vasudeva the ferryman. This was the point after Siddhartha ran from his life with Kamala and began anew learning from Vasudeva and the river."It was the river that taught me...The river knows everything, one can learn everything from it"(92).

    1. A turning point is an event marking an important change in the course of life/the world.

2.One major turning point that I had learned in global history was the scientific revolution. This was major because if it had not happen, many inventions or discoveries would remain unknown or a mystery, and not many others would feel the need to share their thoughts/ideas on discoveries or inventions.

3.A turning point in Siddhartha's life was when he left his best friend, Govinda, to do what was more important to him, becoming a samana, thus making him independent. "At that instant, Govinda realized that his friend was leaving him, and he began to weep...Tomorrow, O Govinda, I will leave you" (page 29-30)

I agree with Tiana Nunez on the turning point in Siddhartha's life because if it wasn't for that turning point, all of the other decisions he made later on would have been different.

I also agree with Carol Liao on what she had said about the turning point we had learned in Global History because the river valleys helped people to survive because of the many things water can help out with.

1)A turning point is when an event or action takes a turn for the better or the worse.

2)In Global History, one turning point I have learned about was when Columbus had arrived at the Americas. Columbus thought he had arrived in the land of gold, but he had discovered the America. Its a turning point because this is when England had made contact with the Indians. The life of the Indians had changed over time, as their population decreased due to Columbus`s actions & or greed for gold.

3)A turning point in Siddhartha's life would be when he had left his homeland to begin his journey into reaching enlightenment. "Now the father realized that Siddhartha was no longer with him and in his homeland, tat he had already left him" (p11). And thus this is the point where Siddhartha's life changes.

    --

I agree with Carol on #2. The 4 F's (fish, fresh water, fertilized soil, and farming) are important in the human life. It helped humans live their life, and soon the civilization would grow & become more advanced.

1)A turning point is a change that changes the pattern of society or a person's social life for better or worse.

2)One turning point I learn in Global history 1 is the Neolithic Revolution. Neolithic Revolution is the time when farming first started. This was a turning point because before anyone knew about farming, people were hunting and gathering. This means when they don't have enough food they would have to travel to a different place. With the discovery of farming, people would settle down in a one place and farm because with farming you can grow as much food as you want.

3)I think the turning point that effects Siddhartha's life is when Siddhartha met Kamala. Kamala taught Siddhartha about love. Siddhartha said "It was my resolve to learn love from this most beautiful woman"(p.56). Before Siddhartha met Kamala, Siddhartha was wearing torn clothes and had no money or food. Then Kamala got Siddhartha a job and became a successful merchant. "He had grown rich, he long since had his own house and his own servants, and a garden on the river, outside the town"(p.67).

I agree and disagree with Victor Acevedo about the definition of turning point because turning point is when things changes but it can be for better and worse and not just better.

I agree with Kayla Williams that one of the major turning point was the scientific revolution. That was a period when many new inventions and discovery occurs and today we still use their ideas to help us make more advance technology to help us understand how things work.

    1) A turning point is an important event or a change that affects a person, a thing, or history. These changes are often every meaningful and an example would be the Industry Revolution.
    2) An example of a turning point from the topics that we have learn in our Freshman year would be the Neolithic Revolution It is a period of time where human began to settle down, instead of being nomads. Human began to plant grain and store them. This lead to another turning point which is inventions of technology. Soon this lead to development of new civilizations.
    3) One of Siddhartha’s turning points is when he decided to leave Kamaswami and Kamala. Siddhartha hated his present life, so he decided to leave. “He was done with them too, they died in him too. He rose, said farewell to the mango tree… and said farewell to these things” (pg75). After experiencing wealth and love, Siddhartha long for something different and yet he does not know what it is.

I was surprise to find out that Peter and I had the same thoughts about turning point. The Neolithic Revolution was the first major changes in human history. I believe that all changes have an impact on the future world, so by saying “an event that changes things forever” would be a point that I will disagree with.

I agree with Victor that Martin Luther had made a significant turning point. His decision made the world to change into a better place. Religion and government are now separated.

    1) A turning point is events that took place that change the world forever, either for the better or the worse and they effect your future. Lot of turning points can be found in history.

    2) A major turning point in Global History is the Protestant Reformation. This was when catholic churches were selling sins and martin luther stood up for his ideas that said that indulgence is wrong. He wrote the 95 thesis that listed the 95 ways that indulgence is wrong. Martin luther created a second branch of church called the protestant church and this branch of church still exist today.

    3) The turning point of Siddhartha's life is after he meets the buddha and has talked to him after he has lost his friend Govinda. Siddhartha finally realizes the treasures of teachings. He learned that you need to experience it for yourself to really know and understand the teachings."Now had he to experience on his own"(page 44). This lead to him meeting Kamala, where he is going to learn the things he doesn't know about life yet from. Siddhartha learned to make money with the guidence of Kamala for the first time in his life.

1)A turning point is an event that changes the present and future for a long period of time

2)A major turning point in Global History is then neolithic revolution. This is when people stopped being nomads and settled down in a village. They began to fish and farm using fresh water and fertilized soil. Those were the main points of this turning point. After they have learned to settle down, the world was never the same again. Starting from that settlement, people began to advance to bigger villages and eventually became a city. It continued to grow until it became what we have today.

3)The turning point of siddhartha's life is when he leaves his father to go explore the real world. "With your permission, my father. I have come to say that I long to leave your house tomorrow and join the ascetics"(page 9). This lead to him leaving his fathers house and roaming around the world freely.

I agree with Peter about the Neolithic Revolution. It was the starting point of the civilizations and it was the first turning point to really have a big impact on our world today.

I agree with Kayla about the Scientific Revolution. It really impacted how we saw the world back then and even today. We still use their inventions until today to understand the world in different perspectives.

    1. A turning point is an event in which change in a situation occurs and the change usually lasts for a long time.

    2. A turning point in Global History I studied in Freshman year was the transition of the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. This was a turning point because before the Renaissance, Church and religion was very important and was a major influence of this time period. Then growth of interest of art and literature that was influenced by classical models, known as the Renaissance, was what ended the Middle Ages. In the era of the Renaissance, people had different thoughts about science and politics that wouldn't have been accepted during the Middle Ages because it went against the Church or religion. People also began to paint and write differently and express their ideas and religion became less of an influence.

    3. A turning point in Siddhartha's life is when he met Kamaswami. Before Siddhartha met Kamaswami, Siddhartha was a poor samana, but leaves when he sees that being a samana doesn't answer his questions, so he decides to explore and learn about materialism. Kamaswami the rich merchant taught Siddhartha the skills to become a successful merchant and soon Siddhartha becomes wealthy. "Not long after settling in Kamaswami's home, Siddhartha was already taking part in his host's transactions." (page 59)

    Peer Responses ;

    - I agree with Tiana Nunez on her response to question #3. Becoming a samana was a turning point in Siddhartha's life because the lifestyle of a samana was different then the lifestyle he was born into as a Brahmin and this would affect him later on in life.

    - I also agree with Victor Acevedo on his response to question #2. The Protestant Reformation was a turning point because it reduced the power of the Church and people would not have to pay for indulgences. This turning point still affects the Catholic religion today because people do not pay for indulgences.

I agree with Alice Fung that the Neolithic Revolution was a turning point for humans. It allowed people to settle down and increase their population and they no longer need to live their lives as nomades.

I also agree with Kayla Williams that the scientific revolution allowed us to discover many thing and without that, this world would know now as much as we know today. like the important scientists that discovered the earth rotated around the sun and not the sun rotated around the earth.

    1. A turning point is a period in which tradition, culture or a way of doing things changes.

    2. A turning point that we studied in Global History was the Renaissance. The Renaissance was a time of innovation that created the ideas of today's technology. The people of this turning point wanted to change their world and make it better for themselves. Before, their lives were engulfed by the Church. Their religious ideals were reflected in their artwork and everyday routines. During the Renaissance, they changed everything and created ideas of technology that would benefit them for ages. Such inventions were the printing press and prosthetic limbs.

    3. One turning point in Siddhartha's life is when he met Kamala and made himself a life with the child people. For most of his life, Siddhartha was a nomad who sought for the ultimate diversion of his ego. He learned that the ego was greed and desire. However, after meeting Kamala, Siddhartha changed his whole lifestyle in order to woo her. When it worked, he stayed with the child people and eventually his ego took over. "I went and learned the pleasure of love from Kamala, learned business from Kamaswami, piled up money, wasted money, learned to love my stomach, learned to flatter my senses. I had to spend many years losing my spirit, unlearning how to think, forgetting the oneness." (pg.85) Siddhartha became greedy and always yearned for material things; He went back on everything he had learned, changing his life immensely.

    -Peer Responses

I agree with Carol on how much the river valley civilizations were able to form our civilization. It was the turning point in which humans could settle down and make a life for themselves.

To what Victor Acevedo said, Siddhartha becoming a samana also gave him new goals and ways of doing things. Further throughout his journey, he mostly refers back to his days as a samana because it is what he looks to for answers.

    3. A turning point in Siddhartha's life is when him and Govinda seperated. "Together with my friend I came from far away to hear the teaching. And now my friend will remain with your followers, he has taken refuge with you. But I am resuming my pilgrimage."(Page 30) This is considered a turning point because Siddhartha is developing his own mind and opinion.

1.A turning point is a time where you break your daily routines and events. It’s a change that changes the course of your life. During a turning point you start to experience new things emotionally and mentally. Turning points can be negative and positive depending on the case.
2.The Renaissance is considered a turning point in history because of how much the world has changed. Such as the aspects of science, art, medicine, and people life’s in general. The Renaissance also brought wealth into people’s life and history, because it came right after the black plague. The world renaissance translates to rebirth and that’s exactly what happened, history rebirth itself. Famous artist, poets and inventors came to live. For example DaVinci he was a Renaissance Man. Which were men that had great skills and or majored in art, science, math and much more. This time period gave modern day a start and changed the world. People started to trust, live life again as a new beginning.
3.Siddhartha has been searching for enlightment and peace but it never gets easy for him. A turning point in Siddhartha life is when he goes from being a Samana to living a wealthy merchant’s life. In Kamaswamis employ, Siddhartha becomes wealthy and he end up enjoying Kamala’s intimate company, but he dislikes how everyone is so cruel, angry and dull. Siddhartha has lived a loving fasting, joyful life that has brought him the key to life. For as long as he lived with the new villages Kamaswami, he has learned a lot from them. For example do businesses, take pleasure with women, command servants, drink wine and gamble, yet he is scorned to watch them live. “It happened more and more often ...he would lie and linger on in bed, feeling stupid and tired... he became annoyed and impatient when Kamaswami bored with him with his worries... those features found so often in the rich, those features of discontent, sickliness, sulkiness, sluggishness, lifelessness. Slowly he was stricken with spiritual illness of the rich...and Siddhartha’s new life, begun after his paring from Govinda” (pg 69-70). Siddhartha stopped thinking like a Samana and started gambling with passion. This changed Siddhartha’s life. Life in the city was a game and he can’t be playing it forever.
-I agree with Shenelle another turning point was when Siddhartha separated from Govinda. Govinda was his follower but when the Gautama appears Govinda becomes his follower and it’s now time for Siddhartha to find his way. Nothing in life is easy and for Siddhartha it just gets harder.
-I also agree with Cassidy a turning point is also when traditions changes. I agree because revolutions start to happen. Some changes are better than others but history is full of surprises.

A turning point is a moment when the course of events is changed. A turning point during history was the Protestant Reformation. This began after Martin Luther published the 95 Theses. This was a list of 95 arguments against the Catholic Church having indulgences. A result of the Protestant Reformation was the creation of Protestant Churches and one of the first branches was named after Martin Luther, called Lutheran Church. A turning point in Siddhartha’s life was when he met Kamala. “He had tasted wealth, tasted lust, tasted power.”(67). After meeting Kamala, Siddhartha gained more opportunities. He learned the art of love, became a merchant, and became wealthy.

I agree with Tiana Nunez on her response to question #2. The Middle Ages were religious and didn’t believe in revealing any skin. The Renaissance contained human body art and perspective drawings.

I agree with Anastasio Farag on his response to question #2. The Neolithic Revolution was when nomads began to settle down. There were the 4 F’s: fishing, farming, fresh water, and fertilization.

  26. 1. A turning point is an event that happened and it affects most of the history that have been recorded. It's like a chain reaction, one event takes place then something happens cause of it and then another event and so on.
    2. A turning point that I learned in Global History is the Renaissance. The Renaissance brought new ideas into this world. If the Renaissance never happen we wouldn't have planes or jets that would be as advance as it is now. We would also be brainwash by the Christian Church and people would pay the indulgences. We would be really religious and do what the churches tells us to do. If the Renaissance didn't occur then we would be less advance then we are now.
    3. A turning point for Siddhartha is when he met the Sublime One, Gautama. "Away walked the Buddha, and the gaze and his half smile were etched forever in Siddhartha's memory,"(34) this shows that Gautama had a big impression and a major influence to Siddhartha. Due to their meeting, Siddhartha realize that his new path was to find himself, the path of Siddhartha. After their encounter Siddhartha started to see the world differently and saw everything such as the sun, moon, stars, rivers and trees that he have never thought to was beautiful. This event changed everything for Siddhartha and led to other events to happen.

  27. 1) A turning point is when a specific event happens that changes the whole storyline.
    2) A turning point that happened in global history 1 or 2 was the renaissance. The renaisance change history. Art was different. Art changed form religious to nude and more other kinds of paintings.
    3) A turning point in siddhartha lifeis when he starte to follow budhhism and reach enlightment.

    1) I agree with alice because when the neolithic revoulution happened many people started to live in one place instead of being nomads.

  28. A turning point is when specific events happen in which it influences someone's life. A turning point that happened in global history 1 was the Renaissance because it helped change the world and influenced the way people think. One turning point in Siddhartha's life was when he met the Buddha that influenced the way he thought. This teaches him to value life.

I agree with Michelle that Siddhartha's turning point was when he talks with the Buddha.

I agree with Tony that Renaissance was a turning point in global history 1.

  29. 1) A turning point in history is a course or routine of things are changed.

    2) A turning point in History we learned was the Renaissance. The Renaissance was a major turning point because it was completely different and almost the opposite of the current belief at the time. There was music, art, entertainment and more. These thing's did not focus just on the Catholic Church and religious things. It focused more on humans and other things.

    3) A turning point for Siddhartha was when he was not with Govinda. Siddhartha was not happy with the Buddha's teachings but Govinda was, therefore Govinda took the Buddha's teachings when Siddhartha had not. (Page 30) "And Govinda kept urging his friend to tell him why he did not want to take a refuge in Guatama's teaching, tell him what failing he found in this teaching." This is a turning point because now Siddhartha now has a mind of his own, he is no longer falling under the category of a follower.

1.A turning point is where a decisive change of event take place.

2.A Major turning point in Global History is the Neolithic Revolution. The Neolithic Revolution is the development of the first agricultural. This is the period where human from hunter-gather decided to settle down and build towns.Human then came up with the idea planting and growing crops for food source instead of migrating from place to place. From this point on everything changed, people is living together with better communication.History began focused on agricultural, human culture became very dependent on crops. Our course of history changed a whole new direction thanks to this event.

3.The turning point in Siddhartha life was the leaving of his family and home to become a samana. " You will"he said go to the forest and become and samana."Siddhartha got permission to go out to the world and become and samana.Siddhartha thirst for knowledge and answers led him to this path to become a samana. He was the son of Brahmin involving with holy rituals and offering. He is a man worthy of great respect with a great future.Siddhartha saw samana passing by and that changed everything.Siddhartha saw this as a message to him.He was discontent on the world and it's loop holes. He want answers and to empty out his desire. He seeks answers and he asked his parent to let him go and become and samana. His life changed from a Brahmin to a samana.Siddhartha left his home on a long journey with no end.

    1) A turning point is when a drastic change hits point.
2)The Protestant reformation is a big turning point in history. It all started with a man named Martin Luther who wrote the 95 Theses which went against the Catholic church's indulgences. It is a turning point in history because it had drastic change on the churches. Corruption in the Catholic church decreased tremendously because of the Protestant reformation.
3)A turning point in Siddhartha's life was when he and Govinda had heard about Gautama, the Buddha. "And the rumors reached the samanas in the forests too, and Siddhartha too, and Govinda too...That same day, Siddhartha informed the eldest of the Samanas about his decision to leave him"(20-22). Both Siddhartha and Govinda both change the course of events in their lives by deciding to seek the Buddha.

  32. 1) a turning point is any time in history where major changes take place, be it for better or worse.
    2) The Neolithic Revolution is a crucial turning point in history because it allowed us to settle down and form cities. During the revolution, early man learned about farming, and didn't have to waste time running around hunting animals, so they could spend time on more important things.
    3) A big turning point in Siddhartha's life was when he decided to join the Samanas. Not only did it mark a significant change i his goals and ideals (removing all materialistic possessions and being one with nature as opposed to being a high ranking priest) but it also marks a big change in Siddhartha's relationship with his father - Siddhartha proves his independence and shows his father that he is his own man.

I agree with Abdulhadi about the protestant reformation being a crucial turning point. If it never took place, we would still be paying the church indulgences, something that would not only continue to corrupt the church, but damage our economy as well.

I also agree with Way sey about Siddhartha's turning point being his time spent with Buddha. Although Siddhartha did not directly feel the teachings of Buddha, later reflections led Siddhartha to form a whole new way of life for himself.

    1. A turning point is a time in history when the social, economical, and political aspects of society go through a great "metamorphosis" or critical change, for better or worse.

    2. The Scientific Revolution was a major turning point in history, as it was the emerging and spreading of new ideas during the seventeenth century. During this time, European thinkers fought against, and challenged normal and conventional thought. This conventional thought being based upon old and traditional authority and power, including religion(specifically the Catholic Church, whose ideals had a great influence over Europe at that time). At this time, logic and reasoning began to replace faith and older forms of belief. This methodical and logical approach towards understanding the world is now known as the "Scientific Method", and because of it, new ideas were discovered through experimentation.
Astronomers like Copernicus challenged religious beliefs by stating that the sun, not the earth, was the center of the universe. Revolutionary ideas like these often met resistance from traditional authority, as Galileo, another famous astronomer at the time, was even held on trial by the Catholic Church for supporting Copernicus’s scientific ideas. But the efforts of these brilliant scientists put science and discovery into motion, and changed the way people thought about the physical world around them. This revolution weakened the power religion had over society and shaped society in accordance to observation and experimental understanding, where people would begin to look towards science for solutions, and not just religious texts. This is why I believe that the Scientific Revolution was a major turning point in history.

    3. One major turning point in Siddhartha's life was when he partnered and began to live with Vasudeva, the ferryman. For Siddhartha, a major turning point in his life would almost always be a change in mentality, and his overall perspective of the world. It would be change in the experiencing and realization of his ego. Vasudeva showed Siddhartha the beauty of simplicity, the "Om" state of perfection found in nature, and especially the river. Because of this, Siddhartha finally found peace in himself, which is the "Om" state of perfection he so longed for. Vasudeva was the final, and most important turning point of his journey. The enlightenment Siddhartha achieved from the observed wisdom of Vasudeva and his life, is stated by Siddhartha on pg. 125 of the book where Siddhartha says to Govinda, "The world, my friend, Govinda, is not imperfect or developing slowly toward perfection. No, the world is perfect at every moment, all sin already contains grace, all youngsters already contain oldsters, all babies contain death, all the dying contain eternal life". It was because of Vasudeva's help that Siddhartha was able to discover and learn for himself, this ultimate wisdom.

I agree with Cassidy on the Renaissance being a major turning point in history, as it also sort of weakened the influence that religion had over people, specifically since art was displayed in a more humanly concept which supported humanism, and not religion.

Also, I greatly admire the definition Burcu gave of what a turning point is. He says that its a change from routine, which is a great insight towards understanding turning points in history.

    2. Religion is a turning point in the course of history. Because of the Black Plague, many people died. However, the church opened up, which many people can go to. Because of the church, people had their hopes to living now, and they would also behave themselves.

    3. After the talk with Gautama, Siddhartha decided to be his own teacher (he is achieving independence). Before any of this, Siddhartha has been spending time helping his dear friend Govinda seeking more knowledge by looking for Buddha. However, Siddhartha had a feeling that he knew of the Buddha's Teachings, so he decides to separate himself from his dear friend Govinda. This is a huge turning point in the book Siddhartha, knowing that Siddhartha is always surrounding with people in the beginning of the book and now he has to be by himself.

    1) A turning point is a change in history that is for the better or for worse.
    2) A turning point that I learned in Global History 1 and 2 is the change from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. The Middle Ages was about religion. The church used this as a way to manipulate people into doing what they wanted. The Renaissance, on the other hand, dealt with creativity, allowing individualism to rise. This allowed people to have an opinion therefore changing history.
    3) A turning point in Siddhartha's life is when he was about to commit suicide. He believed that he wouldn't be able to find enlightment because of his sins. But hearing the sacred "Om" snapped him out of it, changing the direction of his thinking.

    2) The Protestant Reformation was a important turning point in history. This is because before Martin Luther the Roman Catholic Church had alot of political authority. But when Martin created the 95 theses were created by Martin, the Catholic church lost political authority and power. If it wasnt for the 95 theses we could have still been pretty much ruled by the Catholic Church.
3)A turning point is Siddhartha's life was when he saw Govinda again. Think about it before he saw Govinda he had lost all his values and hope. Siddhartha was ready to give up and turn himself in to death. He was living a life with no meaning, he let everything he didnt want into his path. But when he saw his friend Govinda he saw the world in a different way. He got all his values back that he had lost.

1- A turning point is when something happens that can change for the better or the worse.
2-One turning point from Global 1 or 2 is the Road System of the Incan Civilization. Their roads used to be unsafe or dangerous when people would have to walk on them and travelers from the cliff had a higher percentage of falling down leading dead. But now they paved their highland roads with flat stones and built stonewalls to prevent travelers from falling off cliff.
3-One turning point in Siddhartha's life would be when he entered the large town meeting the beautiful Kamala. He fell in love with her at first sight cause of her beauty but his love wasn't accepted by Kamala because of his lack of fine clothes, fine shoes, and money in his pouch. "Yesterday I also learned from you. I have already removed my beard, combed my hair, rubbed oil into my hair. There is little that I still lack, you excellent lady:fine clothes, fine shoes, and money in my pouch." (51) This would be a turning point because later on Siddhartha learns to earn money from the merchant Kamaswami and went back to the beautiful Kamala. In Siddhartha's whole life he have never meet such a beauty nor lived in such wealth. But when he was in wealth he began to gamble and lost all of his belongings. Gambling made him lose all he just had once before.

  43. 1) A turning point is a major event in history that have led to lasting changes.

2)One turning point I learned in freshman global is the Renaissance. It was a major turning point in history when Europe shifted into humanism after decades of being dominated by the Catholic Church. Before the Renaissance period people studied the teachings of the church only. Everything they thought or knew was about religion even the art. But during the Renaissance people started to think for themselves. It even led to art being about expression instead of religion.

    3) A important turning point in Siddharthas life would have to be his "awakening". When Siddhartha decided that he no longer wanted to study the world and instead wanted to learn or find himself. This is when he decided that he was going to leave and stop studying with the monks and ascetics and instead learn more about Siddhartha. " For suddenly this was clear to him: He, who was truly awakened or newly born, he had to begin his life anew and afresh" (38).

Renaissance art was in 3-D, and it showed more details because the paintings were not religious. That is why it is a turning point in history.
3)A turning point in Siddartha's life is when he saw his old childhood friend Govinda and noticed that his old friend had changed (pg 80). That is a turning point because his friend has changed and if his friend did why can;t Siddartha change to.

The disease was Smallpox and it decreased the population of Native Americans. This was a turning point for Native Americans because it caused many to die and the slavery changed their lifestyle.

I agree with Carol Liao that the river valley civilizations are a turning point since it drastically changed the way of life and completely affected how and what we eat, invent, use, bathe, comunicate,e.t.c. This event affect what we eat since we don't have to hunt anymore and can simply grow food. The houses changed from light, movible ones to now-a-day modern, complex superstructures. We can now comunicate easily since people live nearby. Our bathing has changed since now we can build tubs and other hygienic furnitures instead of bathing in lakes and rivers.

I agree with Elizabeth Bonilla because the change from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance was an impotant turning point. The Renaissance is what inspired many skilled and artistic inventors to create new works of art and to freely express themselves. This new time period also changed the way people dress and has left its mark as a time of rebirth and a sign of change.

  48. 1) A turning point is a critical time in history in which a major event takes place and makes a significant change to traditions, culture and society for better or worse.

    2) One of the major turning points that I have studied in my first year of Global History was the change from the Middle Ages over to the Renaissance. This transformation can be defined as a turning point in history because there was a major shift in tradition, culture and in the way people thought. For example in the Middle Ages art was not only drawn in a different way but was based on different things. Nearly all works of art were focused on religion (more specifically the Catholic religion). However as the Middle Ages rolled over to the Renaissance art began to change in a lot of ways. The traditional way of drawing on two definitional ways was overcome by perspective drawing. Art began to be about the worship of man rather than the worship of god. Because culture and tradition changed at this point of history the transformation from The Middle Ages to the Renaissance can be considered a turning point.

    3) A major turning point in Siddhartha’s life is when he left life with his father to leave and explore the world to gain a new understanding. "With your permission, my father. I have come to say that I long to leave your house tomorrow and join the ascetics"(page 9). This is the turning point from Siddhartha’s normal life with his father to the adventure that he leads himself to around the world. This may also be considered the starting point of his journey however it was because of his desire to live a free life not within the confinement of his own home that his journey even began in the first place. It is because of this that I consider this the first of many major turning points in Siddhartha’s life.

I agree with both Kayla about her thoughts on the Scientific Revolution. It affects our lives every day and probably still will in the near future. It also allows us to understand the world from a different perspective.

I agree with Nour about how Martin Luther spoke out against the catholic church. The fact that people didn’t think they can buy their way into heaven really changed the way people thought back then.

    2) A turning point I studied in Global History Freshman year would be around 1350 when the Black Plague was still going around in Europe, it helped lead to a time period where many people were happy, which was called the Renaissance. Many people in Europe started losing interest on the Black Plague, which went around for a few years already, and they developed a new interest in learning about the achievements of the classical civilizations of Greece and Rome. It was a period of great intellectual and artistic creativity. This had led to a positive change to the cities in the region. It had helped them in becoming very powerful and independent due to the trade and their strategic location. Merchants became very rich from the trade and wealthy merchants would act as patrons by supporting artists, writers, and scholars by paying them to work on their art full time. From this many people lived their life easy and the art and ideas of the Renaissance spread through Europe. This was a major turning point in history that changed the way people lived their life and they didn’t think of the depressing side of what has been going on for a while.
    3) A turning point in Siddhartha’s life would be when he decided to join the ascetics, becoming a samana. Through this change of events, he learned many things along his journey, traveling through the forest. Siddhartha learning how to get through the thoughts of his desires. After being with the samanas traveling to towns and other towns along the way, he starts to hear rumors about the Sublime One, Budhha and so he traveled to many places in hopes of finding him to see how great he really is. Not only was the Sublime One as truly as magnificent like what the rumors, seeing with their own eyes Siddhartha changes after meeting him. “The Buddha has robbed me, thought Siddhartha, he has robbed me, yet he has given me more. He has robbed me of my friend…But he has given me Siddhartha, has given me my self.” (Page 34). He claims that Buddha had took away his dear friend, but he had also given him something great in return. This helped Siddhartha realize what he hadn’t realized before he met him. From his decision on joining the ascetics, it had changed his views of his thoughts of reality in so many ways and it led to other events occurring that helped made it happen.

Also Columbus was the cause of the numerous amounts of the Indians’ death due to his arrival and what he desired.

    2) One Turning point we discussed in class last year , was of the Neolithic Revolution. Before the Neolithic Revolution occured people lived in the Paleothic Revolution that the nomads lived in. They're method of surviving was hunting and gathering. The way human society is built, is due to the neolithic revolution. After siddhartha left the Samanas he found Gautama, and with also spoke his mind out. A turning point is a point at which a significant change occurs. One turning point I studied in Freshman Global History was the Protestant Reformation. This time period is a turning point because it changed the face of society in Europe. Europe was left to be divided religiously, and a result of a weakened Catholic Church. This change resulted in many wars; however inventions were made like the printing press. One turning point in Siddhartha’s life was when he stood by the river. While he was standing by the river, he thought about committing suicide. When the river starts to speak its wise words, Siddhartha changes his philosophy of life "Om! he spoke to himself: Om! and again he knew about Brahman, knew about the indestructibility of life, knew about all that is divine, which he had forgotten."(pg76) The moment represents a turning point that eventually leads to his achievement of nirvana. Siddhartha is saved by the river’s words and then enters a deep sleep from which he emerges spiritually rejuvenated.

  67. A turning point is an event that changes. It usually impacts someone or something in some way. One turning point we learned last year in global history was The Renaissance. During the Middle Ages, all the decisions were made by the Catholic Church. Also, all art revolved around Christianity. However, during the Renaissance, the once powerful Catholic Church was starting to loose power. Not everything was based on Christianity, and art took a new form. Art was based on Humanism, art celebrating humans, and art based on people's daily lives. A turning point in Siddhartha's life was when he decided to leave the samanas. On pg. 22 it states ''Siddhartha informed the eldest of the samanas about his decision to leave him.'' This was the turning point in Siddhartha's life because this was when everything started to change in his life, and he was slowly discovering how to end his ego.

    1. There are several ways to define turning point, similar to Barack Obama. For example, a turning point defines the difference in most of the characters in the book. Not only does it change the characters attitude, but it evolves their perspective and their intellectual thoughts. Obama, the president of the United States, he had struggled through his child life, but he has so much potential, and he studied throughout his life, and woke up early with his mother to teach him every morning. Now, look at the history of 2010, Obama is now president. This expresses that most people in the book can change positively and negatively depending on their ego, and a turning point is the strongest point in the book that a reader will never forget.

    2) The Roman Catholic indulgences to believe in the faith derived more conflicts, than gaining the punctuality in a person. For instance, an individual similar to today’s society should have the potential that nobody else has. The person needs to find the stability in oneself, so they look above the heavens and try to seek God as their calling, so they can be counseled and developed into a better person. Well, the Roman Catholic Church denied that faith. They noticed that for people to believe in faith they wanted the Catholic Church to be superior and have many people pay to take away the sins. Many people believed this is what God desired, but Martin Luther approaches, and tells a dedicating speech. He created the 95 theses, and it approaches as popular statements throughout Rome. Therefore, most people started to believe Martin Luther, because he was the guy of steel, he was a strong spokesperson of God, and how faith really is followed. As a result, the Catholic Church has become inferior, and he established a Christian Church. This changed history because now, the devastating occurrences’’ in life is repetitive, which is how most things evolve. Most people who had confidence in the Catholic faith, has become more cautious, that the indulgences, isn’t what God wanted.

    3) Siddhartha’s notification becomes a great instructor in his personal life, from the evolution in the book. In the book Siddhartha notices that what he sought wasn’t really what he wanted. This represents that in the beginning, he wanted to seek happiness, but then when he traveled to Gautama, he realizes that the desire for being a samana can’t bring him less calamity. The best way to experience his inner ego is to follow his heart and notice what he wants in his life. “The Buddha has robbed me, thought Siddhartha…but he has given me Siddhartha, has given me my self” (34). This quote represents that Siddhartha just needed advice, since the advice made him become more aware, and made him understand his inner self more in depth. His inner self will help him not only be enchanted when people notice him, but he will be content both internal and external. His life is changed through the different opinions, not only has his cleverness given the ability to apprehension. In addition, a turning point is a strong and prominent event in the book; it lets the reader continue the book until the book ends.

I agree with Claudia's saying. This is because a turning point is a sequence of events but also can have a downfall and positive impact on the character.

According to Zuer Mai a turning point in history is when"...people started to experiment and take pride in their human accomplishments and spent less time worshiping the Catholic Church and such spiritual things that weren't in front of them." I agree with Mai because when people create new inventions, older inventions become less popular.

  72. I liked Claudia Wang's statement ''A turning point I studied in Global History Freshman year would be around 1350 when the Black Plague was still going around in Europe, it helped lead to a time period where many people were happy, which was called the Renaissance.'' She helped me realize that there was more than 1 turning point during the Renaissance.

I also agree with Elizabeth Bonilla's definition of turning point''A turning point is a time in which things change in a very important way than how it was before, making the event or course in life historical.''

  73. A turning point is the point at which a decisive or major change takes place .

The Renaissance was a major turning point in history . It marked a period of creativity and new beginning on modern history. It allowed people to become more open and break out of strict religious views . They got to view and express themselves in a new way , specially through art. Many also became wealthy because they became patrons. Patrons were those who were hired to basically do what they love and that was art. This turning point has also had a leading impact on the world today .

A turning point in Siddhartha's life was after he heard the Teaching of Gautama and made the decision of leaving Govinda instead of choosing to join him in the fellowship of disciples . Although he stood up to his father when deciding to leave and become a samana Govinda had been there , but now Siddhartha was truly on his own . From the Teaching he took away with him what he believed the Buddha gave to him and that being himself . He found truth in it but still seeked something more hence choosing to go his own way and find his own path as Govinda had . Siddhartha now saw the world in a transforming beautiful way . "All this had always existed , and he had never seen it , he had never been present. Now he was there , he belonged to it " (44). Siddhartha was finally comfortable with finding and getting to know his true self and seeking that joy instead of always questioning it .

I agree with Anthony 's turning point of history when Colombus came to the Americas with his men. Many of us are stating positive ones but a turning point can also be viewed as a downfall and Colombus's coming to America is a perfect example because they caused such a decrease of the native american population .

I agree with Kayla that the Scientific Revolution was a turning point . Because it changed the way we saw the universe and led to major discoveries in the fields of science .

  74. I agree with Winnie, Siddhartha leaving the samanas was another turning point for Siddhartha. This was a turning point for hime because he was starting a new way to live his life.

I agree with Iqra, Siddhartha leaving Govinda was a turning point because Siddhartha will have to learn to do things on his own from then on.

  75. 1.A turning point is a time which a historical event occurs. It is a period in history when a significant change occurs. It is an event or period of time that affects one or more people.
2.During my Freshman year, I have studied many turning points. The Crusades is a turning point I have learned in my Global class in my Freshman year. It is a time period where a series of wars that Europeans fought against the Islamic Empire to conquer land in the Middle East. The Crusades helped to bring Europe out of Feudalism. Feudalism ended and stronger governments developed after the Crusades. People that survived brought back goods and ideas from the Islamic Empire, and this had led to cultural diffusion.
3.There are many events in Siddhartha’s life that is a turning point. A turning point in Siddhartha’s life is leaving his homeland and going into the forest and become a samana. “‘You will,’ he said, ‘go into the forest and become a samana. If you find bliss in the forest, then come and teach me bliss. If you find disillusion, then come back, and let us jointly sacrifice to the gods again” (11). This event is a turning point in Siddhartha’s life because whatever Siddhartha finds in the forest will affect him and others.

Ka Yan Ou: I disagree with Anastasio Farag that a turning point is an event that changes the present and future for a long period of time. A turning point doesn’t change things for a long period of time, instead it changed things forever. Things can never be the same again after a turning point occurs. For example, the founding of electricity had changed people’s way of life. People would all be using electricity in life instead of living the way they had before having electricity.
Ka Yan Ou: I agree with Wendy Huang that the first encounter between the Old World and the New World is a turning point in history. There are advantages and disadvantages of this turning point. This turning point has brought a change to people’s life. Food and ideas were being exchanged, and diseases were being brought to other places.

    1) A turning point is when something that is occurring stops, and something else begins to happen in relation to it. It is usually a critical point.

    2) One turning point that I studied was when Christopher Columbus landed in the Americas. This was a turning point because the people who inhabited the Americas were forced to become civilized and forced to change. They had to give up their culture and work as slaves for Christopher and his men.

    3) In my opinion, the biggest turning point in Siddhartha's life was in the beginning of the novel. "Now the father realized that Siddhartha was no longer with him and in his homeland, that he had already left him. The father touched Siddhartha's shoulder.
'You will,' he said, 'go into the forest and become a samana. If you find bliss in the forest, then come back and teach me bliss. If you find disillusion, then come back, and let us sacrifice to the gods again. Now go and kiss your mother, tell her where you are going. But for me it is time to go to the river and perform the first ablution.' (pg.11)". His father let him go to fulfill his destiny. It's also a turning point because it seemed to be the first time when the father gave Siddhartha something that he wanted instead of just telling him what to do.

    Response's to Other Comments:
1)I agree with Peter Hansen's response to question number two. I think that the Neolithic Revolution could arguably the biggest turning point in history. It is when humans learned to be dependent on the resources around them to keep a permanent residence somewhere.

2)I really enjoyed how Victor Acevedo put a positive spin on the definition of turning point. He said "...it can also be a time when things change for the better." It's not always true-in my opinion- but it's a nice way of looking at it.

    1) A turning point is a time period when a dramatic change accrues. If many effect people in a negative or positive way.

2)A turning point that I learned in Global History in freshman year was the Neolithic Revolution. In this time period people
started to settle down in one place instead of traveling around. They developed farming skills and started using water for
fertial soil, fishing and fresh water. They also started to build larger communities, after this people started becoming
    more advance.

3)One major turning point in Siddhartha's life is when he decided to leave his home to become a samana. He no longer wanted
to be a Brahmin , he wanted to try something different and discover new things. "With your permission, my father. I have come
to say that I long to leave your house tomorrow and join the ascetics. My longing is to become a samana. May my father have
nothing against it." pg 9. Siddhartha knew that his father might of not been okay with what he was doing, but that didn't
stop him from asking. His thrist for knowlegde and answers was motovating him to start his new journey.

I also agree with Luis Beato's answer to number three. When Siddhartha saw Govinda he put himself together again
and didn't let himself fall apart. His hope for everything started to come back.

I also agree with Kayla William's answer to number two. Thanks to the scientific revolution we've became more advance, there
were many new useful things invented to help make life easier.

3.A turning point in the book Siddhartha was when he wanted to become a samana.(9)This was a turning point because he wanted to leave his family.

    1. A turning is when a big event happens, it can also be describe as the climax.

    2. One turning point in freshman global history was the Crusades. It was a turning point because once the Crusades started trade expanded and everyone weren't as isolated as before.

    3. One turning point was when Siddhartha decided to leave his past behind him and start a new life. "Oh, Govinda," he murmured, "let us not waste words. Tomorrow at daybreak, I will begin the life of the samanas. Do not speak about it anymore."(page 8). This is a turning point because Siddhartha had never experienced how the world was outside of his family on his own.

I agree with Winnie, one turning point was when Siddhartha left his family to become a samana.

I agree with Claudia, the Black Plague was a major turning point for Europe.

  84. A turning point is a memorable event that changes the course of events that follow.

A turning point I learned about as a freshman was the renaissance. It changed the way many people lived their life. Before the renaissance everything revolved around God. All their art and the way they thought about the earth revolved around him. But after the renaissance people started to admire the human's mind, body and soul and stopped assuming God was the reason things were the way they were.

A major turning point in Siddhartha was when Siddhartha left Govinda. This was a turning point because Siddhartha finally became independent. Before he left, Siddhartha did whatever he was told and was forced to believe whatever he was taught. When Siddhartha left he went out into the world and experienced and learned things for himself.

    1) A turning point is a big change of the historical events that follow it.
    2) A turning point that i learned in my freshman year is the crusades since it made many changes between the Europeans and the Arabians. Even though the series of wars were very long, it made the Europeans less frightened in the world and it brought them to trade again. It also ended their feudalism since they started trading a lot more than they used to. Part of the Muslim religion spread towards the European nation so some of the Europeans became Muslims. Europe would probably still have feudalism if it wasn't for the crusades.
    3) A turning point in Siddhartha's life was when he met got a job in town. Ever since he got a job ,he wore better clothes, acted differently, and his love with Kamala became much closer. When he met Kamala, he wasn't exactly rich yet but that was the beginning so it would probably have started when he got his job.

    1. What is a turning point?
A turning point is something that changes the course of history.

    2. Describe one turning point you studied in Global 1 or 2 Freshman year and explain why that event or time period is a turning point.

One turning point I studied in Global 1 or 2 Freshman year is the Neolithic revolution. The Neolithic revolution is a period in history in which people learned to farm. This time is a turning point because went from being hunters and gatherers to farmers. No longer did we have to search for food. We could plant seeds, water them, and then eat the wonderful fruits of our labor. This meant that people did not have to move around. They could settle down in one place and not have to worry about finding food since they grew it themselves.

    3. Choose one turning point in Siddhartha's life and explain why that event is a turning point.
A turning point in Siddhartha's life is when he left the Samanas. Siddhartha not only loses all faith in the teachers, but there is rumor that the cycle of karma has been brought to an end. Siddhartha wishes to leave the Samanas and in doing so he must announce this to the Samana elder. Siddhartha hypnotizes the Samana elder when the elder becomes angry and then leaves with Govinda. By hypnotizing the elder, Siddhartha shows that he has a high spirituality. This event is a turning point in Siddhartha's life because he goes from being a young Brahmin to someone who seeks knowledge to a samana to wanting to be a Gotama.

    Response to Kayla Williams:
"3.A turning point in Siddhartha's life was when he left his best friend, Govinda, to do what was more important to him, becoming a samana, thus making him independent. "At that instant, Govinda realized that his friend was leaving him, and he began to weep...Tomorrow, O Govinda, I will leave you" (page 29-30)"

I disagree with your statement. Siddhartha was independent long before he left his best friend Govinda. He went from being a wealthy brahmin to a samana. This was on his own. He made this choice by himself. He was also self-sustaining when he chose to go to the Gotama's camp.

  87. 1. A turning point is a change in one's life, whether it may be an important turning point or not. As long as he/she is affected by this shift.

    2. One turning point I have learned and studied in Global History was when the Europeans came and took over America. Driving away millions of Native Americans, this point in life was a huge turning point. Not only for the Native Americans but for the Europeans too. It was a positive note for them because it meant for new land, more resources and a brand new life. On the other hand the Indians were hurt in the process. Millions were forced to abandon their homes, and lots of people died.

3.As Siddhartha becomes friends with Kamaswami, he learns the way of the merchants. Gaining new skills such as learning to do business. This soon propelled him to wealth and Siddhartha was living the "rich" life. Eating fancy foods, owning fancy clothes, everything was the complete opposite of a Samana. In my opinion, this was a big turning point in Siddhartha's life.

    ~~~I agree with Blanca, usually a turning point is suppose to be critical, and is never unimportant.
    ~~~I disagree with Emily's definition of turning point. It doesn't necessarily have to be new. It can be an event from the past.
