1) Geography is the study of earth.
ReplyDelete2) A positive impact that geography has on people around the world is that it could cause people leaving near river to have easy connection to other in the world like trading.
A negative impact that geograhpy has on people around the world is that they could cause people that lives in mountain areas and to be isolated form the other parts of the world which makes it kind of impossible to communicate with others.
3) Some geography features of India is that it is surrounded around the northestern with the Himalaya mountains which isolates India from the other parts of asia by land and India is surrounded by water on the other two side, so water ihe only way to get into india. Beacuse of the isolations, it slows down the developement of the Indian society. But you could also travel over or around the mountains and ito india and from here trade and communication and spread of ideas will be easy. With the spread of ideas from the outside world it makes cultural diffusion easier. With trade it not only helped the Indian socity but it also spread its ideas to the other parts of the world like buddhism.
4) The geography within India makes it easy to travel from place to place because there are no deserts, or mountains on it. This geograhpy helped Govinda reach his goal and he has finally grew up. "Govinda was delighted, and joyfully he cried:"fine, then we have reached our goal and our journey is over!..."(page 25. Through Govinda and Siddharthas coursity they traveled to where the Buddha was and hoped to hear his teachings from his who voice and this journey let Siddhartha realize that Govina is now a man and all grown up because he choose to stay with Buddha and become one of his followers, while Siddhartha moves on in his journey.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Michelle that a positive impact on people was farming because it helped them improve there society and see which ways for them were helpful and which weren't, made it easier for them to stay in one place and have sufficient food instead of being nomads.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with Victor about there being many mountains, such as the Himalayan, but that did not mean that it made them believe in one belief sytem. In the book there were Samanas(p.14) and the ways of the people in the town of Samsara (p. 48)The samanas learned to ontrol self desire as Siddhartha had learned with them, but when Siddhartha cme into Samsara he changed and becaame desireable.
I agree with victor that geograhpy impacts the food that is farmed in the area. Like the food that you are able to find in asia you might not beable to find in northamerica because of the different climate we have the ability to grow and find the foor is rare.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with elizabeth that India is located in an area with a climate that is hot most of the year bacause it is located on and near the equator and areas on and or near the equator have hot climates.
1)Geography is the study of earth, such as its landscape and enviorment.
ReplyDelete2)A positive impact that geography had on people were other people, through the trading and farming like Michelle and Victor said, they helped each other improve their life by cropping, selling and others.
3)India is a peninsula located in Southern Asia and with the climate being hot most of the year, but coolest from December to February.India includes deserts and mountains being near the southern part of the peninsula,it also has rainforests. The indian believe they are more secure with democracy around.India is the eleventh larest economy place and is still growing fast with its marketing. In the book Siddhartha, it describes the weather as well as water feature.(p.3)
4)A negative impact that Kamala had on the geography was when she was in the forest going to see gautama, she got bitten by a snake, assuming that the forest in india have creatures that are dangerous.(p.98)A positive impact that Siddhartha had was the help from others, like when Buddha helped him understand his teaching,(p.32) and Vasuveda iviting him to live with him and listen to the river hopefully finding his bliss.(p.91)
1.Geography is the study of Earth and its features
ReplyDelete2.A positive impact of geography is that the different features give people different advantages. For example, someone who lives close to water has easy access to trade and farming. A negative impact of geography is some cultures are isolated from civilzation, which makes it difficult to interact with other cultures.
3. India, a country located in South Asia, occupies 2.4% of the world's land area. The landscape consists of snow-capped mountain ranges, deserts, plains, hills and plateaus. It is mostly hot in India during the year because it is located near the equator. These features have hindered Indian society because the isolation prevented them from the spread of ideas with other cultures (cultral diffusion). The isolation also helps them because by being unable to interact with other cultures, they can come up with beliefs and ideas of their own.
4.A negative impact that geography had on Siddhartha was the extreme heat. "Siddhartha stood silent in the vertical blaze of the sun, burning with pain..."(p.14). The fact that it's mostly hot during the year in India means that the sun will be out a lot, making it very hot.
I agree with Victor that isolation would keep invaders out. It would be difficult for them to attack because there's no easy way to make their way to the land.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Michelle that people living near a river have easy connection to trade because the flow of the river makes it easy for products to travel to other places.
ReplyDelete1. Geography is the study of the Earth, it's features, and phenomena.
ReplyDelete2. A positive impact that geography had on people in the world is it gave them many natural resources to survive. A negative impact geography has on the people in the world is it can separate the people from each other.
3. India is a giant peninsula that is south of Asia and China. The Himalayan mountains separate most of India from China and Asia. It has the second highest population on Earth with 930 million people. Its climate is a hot one. the temperatures can can go as high as 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Since the Himalayan mountains separated India from most of Asia, they did not get to connect very well with the rest of the world. India's big population compensated for their isolation from the world.
4.The geography helped Siddhartha and Govinda reach the Buddha."...they scarcely needed to ask the way, for not a few pilgrims and monks in Gautama's fellowship were heading toward the Jetavena."(page 26). It was because the community was in touch with each other that Siddhartha and Govinda were able to get to the Buddha.
1.Geography is the study of earth and it's landscapes/structure.
ReplyDelete2.A positive impact geography had on people was that it provided resources such as water (from rivers and other bodies of water) and food (from animals and plants). A negative impact geography had on people was isolation from other places. An example of that would be like Japan, they are isolated from the world because it is just islands.
3.India, is of South Asia. The state is bounded by the Indian Ocean, the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. It has 4 main climates which are Alpine, Subtropical, Tropical and Arid. Meaning its temperatures could go as high as 120 degrees Fahrenheit (just like what Peter had said) and the temperatures could go down low (like in Siddhartha. In India, there are mountains, deserts, hills and plains. They have mountains called the Himalayan Mountains that separates India from most of Asia. Because of this isolation, the spread of ideas and trade would be hard for the people of India and Asia.
4.A negative affect India's geography had on Siddhartha was the way the climate was. "Siddhartha stood silent in the vertical blaze of the sun, burning with pain, burning with thirst, and he stood till he felt no pain or thirst. He stood silent in the rainy season, the water dripping from his hair, over freezing shoulders, over freezing hips and legs and the penitent stood until his legs and shoulders were no longer freezing until they fell silent, until they were still" (page 14). It affected him negatively because of the climatic change in the weather and the pain it brought to him. Although it affected him negatively, it also affected him positively because it is, in a way, teaching him to be a strong person during any weather.
I agree with Peter on the geography of India, with the climate and everything and just to add on the climate can go down really low as the seasons change.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Elizabeth on agreeing with Michelle because of what she said about how the positive impact on people was farming because of how much it had helped them to not be nomads anymore and no more traveling. She made a really good point there that many others and I had learned about in global history!
ReplyDelete1. Geography is the study of Earth's physical features and surface.
ReplyDelete2. A positive impact of geography on people around the world is that Earth's features help people to live depending on which parts of the world they live. Mountains and deserts are two geographical features that can help protect people from enemies and invaders. Geography can also have negative impacts on people around the world. Living near rivers and oceans can cause floods and can cause a lot of damage.
3. India is located on the continent of Asia and is surrounded by 3 bodies of water, making it a peninsula. The Himalayan mountains separate and isolate India from the rest of the continent. India has mostly a hot and warm climate. The Northern part of India is a temperate region, where a variety of crops and vegetation are grown. The crops and other items such as tea and spices can be traded or sold which helps the country's economy.
4. Geography has a positive impact on Kamaswami. Kamaswami was a rich merchant meaning he was successful in trade around India and outside of India with the bodies of water surrounding the country. "You are expected at the home of Kamaswami, he is the richest merchant in town." (Page 55)
Peer Responses ;
- I disagree with Victor Fung's answer to question #3. India wasn't really isolated from other countries because India shared inventions and ideas through trade from other countries. India is a peninsula, so they have harbors and ports for boats to travel and trade.
- I agree with Peter's answer for question #2 on how geography can have a positive impact. Natural resources are very important to people everywhere. Examples include water and trees for oxygen and food. These natural resources are essential for people to live.
1. Geography is a study of earth and it's features.
ReplyDelete2. A positive impact of geography on people around the world is if they live near fresh water, they can fish and farm a lot and have a lot of resources to live with. One negative impact of geography on people around the world is if they live near big bodies of water, natural disasters can strike them such as tsunamis, hurricanes, etc.
3.Some of India's geography features is that it is considered a peninsula. It is surrounded by water and is also surrounded by the Himalayan mountains. A positive effect of that is India is very hard to invade on land. A negative effect of that is their society doesn't grow as fast as other countries. They are branched off from the rest of the world and not a lot of diffusion between people occurs.
4. Geography has a negative and harsh impact on Siddhartha. " Silently he crouched in the twisting brambles, the blood dripping from his burning skin"(page 14). It effected Siddhartha negatively because it brought him pain and suffering. Then in a positive way it also taught him to forget pain in tough situations, like standing in the blazing sun all day.
I agree with Elizabeth's response to victors answer to #3. India is indeed a peninsula and as isolated as it is, it still has harbors to trade goods with other countries.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with Peter's answer to #3. India is isolated from the rest of the world, but it still can connect with almost all of the world through ships and airplanes. they can sell/trade goods at the ports and import and export goods with airplanes.
1) Geography is the topographical features of a certain region.
ReplyDelete2) The geography of a region can have both positive and negative effect. One positive effect that geography might have on people is that they are able to receive natural resources from the land such as water or vegetation. One negative affect that geography might have on people would be the lack of communication, which causes these people to be less in-tune with other cultures.
3) India is located in Southern Asia, bordering the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. From the north the Himalaya's stand and on the other two sides is a huge mass of water. In north India the climate is temperate and to the south it is tropical. These features allowed India to flourish but at the same time become isolated as well. One way geography hindered India is that it made it hard to travel out of India.
Victor Acevedo
ReplyDelete1.Geography is the sudy of the world but mostly its physical features, terrain and deep waters. This mostly includes the Earth's crust due to its large land masses, deep canyons and underwater features.
2.Geography has positive effects and negative effects. One positive effect is that many centries ago, the Sahara desert provided protection to the lower part of Africa, from being invaded by Europe and Asia. One negative effect is that the Sahara desert also prevented cultural diffusion to the southern part of Africa.(http://www.regentsprep.org/Regents/global/themes/change/geog.cfm)
3.India is located on the southern coast of Asia. India is a penninsula that has three sides of its land bordered by water. India borders the Arabian Seato the west, the Bay of Bengal to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the south. The climates are Tropical Wet, Tropical Dry, Subtropical Humid and Montane. The northern part of India is where the snow-capped Himalayan Mountains are located at. The southern tip is where the tropical forests are located at. The physical features of India slowed the process of cultural diffusion by making it harder to travel out of India such as having to cross long distance deserts and climb over high mountains.
4."Siddhartha halted, he leaned over the water the better to hear, and in the silently flowing water he saw his own face reflected, and in this reflected face there was something that reminded him, something forgotten, and by pondering it, he found it. it resembled the face of his father, the Brahmin."(115) The river positively effects Siddhartha and his father because it reminds him to go see his father to heal the wuond he gave his fathers heart(metaphorically).
Geography is the study of the Earth's surface. Geography can have both positive and negative effects on people around the world. One positive effect is that geography can provide people with fertile soil for farming which can help societies grow. One negative effect that geography can have on people is that it can isolate societies from each other and make them more vulnerable to conquest by other societies. India is located on the southern tip of Asia and it is a peninsula meaning it is surrounded by water on three sides. On the North side, India is bordered by the Himalayan Mountains. During summer, the temperature can exceed 40 °C (104 °F). These features of their geography hindered the development of Indian society because these features made them isolated and prevented the spread of ideas. In my opinion the line “Siddhartha stood silent in the vertical blaze of the sun, burning with thirst, and he stood till he felt no pain or thirst”(14) shows a positive effect the Indian climate had on Siddhartha. The positive effect is that the sun made Siddhartha feel pain until he eventually couldn’t feel anymore which made him come closer to his goal of dying empty.
ReplyDelete-Kevin Sanchez
I agree with Anastasio about how disasters can strike if you live near water. Adding on to that, if the people live on an island it can be harder for them to survive because they cannot trade with anyone nearby if they need something.
ReplyDelete-Kevin Sanchez
I disagree with Victor Fung, India's isolation did not prevent invasions. India was invaded by the Turkish Empire and by the Islamic Empire as well.
ReplyDelete-Kevin Sanchez
1) geography is the Study of the Earth, mainly the formation of it's lands. It is often used i determine how a civilization came to be as a result of it's surrounding land.
ReplyDelete2) It is very difficult to survive alone, which is why it is helpful to have neighboring civilizations in your geographic features. trades, alliances, and new ideas can all come as a result of communicating with the civilizations around you.
These civilizations will not always be friendly, though. It is very common for war to be started based on geographical makeup. That same geographical makeup can also make the war very difficult to win. For example, if you are losing a battle and need to retreat, it can be difficult if you have mountains behind you.
3) India is a large country in Asia, the seventh largest in the world. It lies just south of China and features a very diverse geographic makeup. To the North, it has a long chain of mountains in which is the legendary mt. Everest. Out West is mainly desert, but to the East are some of the heaviest rainfalls on Earth!
4) Because India is so large, there is a lot of room for things to spread - in this case, rumors. When the rumor about Buddha began, it spread like wildfire and never hit a dead end because of the vast amount of space it had to reach. Eventually it reached Siddhartha and Govinda, changing their lives forever.
I agree with what Victor said about Geography being the study of the Earth's crust. People commonly think of only the things at eye level, but it's the layers of molten hot lava and rock beneath that really make most of what we live on today.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what Kayla said about geography giving people resources, especially water. Being close to a river or lake provides you with four things, not just one:
ReplyDeleteFresh water
Fish
Fertile soil
Farming.
Stephanie Wang -
ReplyDelete1. Geography is the study of the physical features of Earth including its climate, plant, animal, and human life.
2. One positive impact of geography on people around the world can be that your surroundings like trees can give you warmth if you use the woods to set a fire in the winter. The fire can protect you from getting a cold. One negative impact would be if you were unable to travel to different places to live or interact with others because of isolation.
3. India is in South Asia and is bounded by the Indian Ocean, the Arabian Sea, and the Bay of Bengal. Also, China is the northeastern border of India and the Himalayan mountains which is located between the two countries have isolated them from interaction. Basically if they're isolated by the Himalayas they are unable to interact, trade, or travel to those countries. India itself also have a different climate then us. They have mainly three major seasons called the Monsoon from June to October, the Summer from April to June, and the Winter from October to March.
4. One example of the geography of India that negatively affected Siddhartha is when he was sleeping after a long travel that could have cause him dead. Because when he was sleeping a monk, Govinda, happen to pass by and spotted him sleeping in a dangerous place where there can be serpents or animals that can harm Siddhartha. So then Govinda stayed by his side until Siddhartha is awake since hes in a deep sleep. But later on Govinda himself fell asleep too. "It is not good to sleep in such places, where there are many serpents and the forest animals have their trails.... I saw you lying and sleeping in this place, where it is dangerous to sleep." (81)
Stephanie Wang -
ReplyDeleteI agree with Elizabeth that a negative affect of geography in the book is that Kamala being bitten by a snake and died because of it. Like Elizabeth said it means that it's dangerous to be around there and can also increase the rate of people dying if more people is going to go there.
Stephanie Wang -
ReplyDeleteI agree with Shenelle that another negative affect on geography in the book would be that Siddhartha in India with that heat. Because like she said it's going to be hot because of the sun coming out a lot. So the heat when Siddhartha is going to be around in different places traveling can really mean pain. He can in fact faint out of nowhere due to the sun's heat.

ReplyDeleteI agree with stephanie wang, she stated that geography can negatively affect people because it will make it hard to travel, but the good thing is that forest provides you warmth. Come to think of the affects shes right. Stephanie thoughtfully answered the question.
ReplyDelete1. Geography is the study of the wonders in the world, everything in nature and on Earth.
ReplyDelete2. One positive impact geography can have on the world is all the resources it provides. For example soil, farming, fertilization, fish and water. Isolation can be also good by being protected from enemies, invaders and the ocean for trading. People will also start developing skills, religion and ideas because of their geography. There is an also negative impact geography has like isolation and natural disasters. Depending on the region you live on they can affect you in many ways. Geography can cause hurricanes, tsunamis, thunder storms and much more disasters. Isolation makes diffusion harder to occur and not all resources may be found.
3. India is very beautiful with many surprises. India is surrounded by three mass bodies if water and it’s full of culture, religion, and different languages. India has little contact with Asia because of the Himalaya Mountains. India is the 2nd most populated nation in the world. Their religion can be seen everywhere in India and sometimes different religions come up. (http://www.geographia.com/india/)
4. Geography negatively affects all the Samanas. They have been often forced to live in groves, rarely eat, appear homeless, and are forced to beg for food to earn their living. But all these forest can come in handy geography can positively impact the Samanas. According to them nature is good just as the ancient teachings of Daoism. The forest provides camp fires and great farming resources.
I strongly agree with Anastasio, he stated that Siddhartha has been the one suffering the most because of geography but just as he said it has done him good by lasting along time in the sun. He has also learned how to fast for a long time and meditation. Nature has served Siddhartha well.
ReplyDelete1.Geography is the study of Earth and it's land, features, inhabitants, and phenomena.
ReplyDelete2.Positive impacts of geography on people is of course having natural resource to adapt to your environment for survival.Various resources from the geography led human to adapt to their land and develop.Depending on the geography they live in, their quality of life is different and all sorts of development can happen.A negative impact geography can have on people would be lands with poor weathering conditions will make it more difficult for people to live.Desserts with the immense heat and the lack of water will make life tougher and the life span you live might not be as long.Bad geography basically will hinder the development of the people and land.
3.India is country located near the Arabian sea.The northern part of India is surrounded by the Himalayan Mountain and other parts of mountains. In India there's the Thar desert, one of the seventh largest desert in the world.India has a wide range of weather conditions depending on the land the weather changes.Hot weathers can happen in deserts, rainy weather can happen in rain forests, while cold happens in glaciers.Mountains of India cut them off from the rest of the world, but people interacted with the Hindu and they entered India. They still had to conquer the mountains to settle down on the land.India is a less economically develop country meaning a huge part of them grow crops to survive. However they are often hit by cyclones causing their crops to rot and impossible to grow.India has a tough geography to adapt to.
4.Geography has positively affected Siddhartha.Siddhartha had fell to despair and shame after leaving the life as a rich merchant."Gazing down he felt entirely filled with the wish to let go and go under in this water. In the water a dreadful emptiness a fearful emptiness in his soul." Siddhartha departing away from Kamaswami and he came across a river. He saw in the river a reflection of himself and his empty and meaningless life he lived so far.He was disgusted and wanted to die. That very same and endless river gave Siddhartha a new light of hope.Seeing the endless flowing of the river reminded him of his endless life, that he abandon those shameful part of his life. Thanks to this river he rejuvenated and was once again cheerful and curious. He now found a new path to take.He work up and renewed himself. He didn't ended up being a guy with the burden of despair.
Sorry If Question 4 didn't meet requirement. I didn't want to write about Environmental geography that has a physical affect on characters since there's already so much.So I though a mental impact might be okay.
1) Geography is the study of landscapes, mountains, climates and rivers.
ReplyDelete2)If you live near a river, a positive impact can be that you have water to grow crops. One negetive impact is that the civilization can be at risk of a flood. If you live near an are that has mountains, a positive influence is having alot of peace. A negetive influence is not being able to get to places quicker. In general the way the world is shaped can make trading easier. But it can also be bad because your enemies can surround you and take you out easier.
3)India is located in Asia. It is a country in South Asia that lies in the indian plate. India is bounded by the Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. The Ganges is the largest river originating in India. India also has the seventh largest desert in the world. India host six major climatic subtypes, ranging from the aline tundra, arid desert, glaciers and humid tropical regions. India has four seasons: winter (Jan-Feb), summer (Mar- May), monsoon(rainy) (June- Sep) and a post-monsoon (Oct- Dec). India also has some mountains, and they have hindered India because they get isolated and wont be able to trade. I believe that they are not advanced because of the geography, so to be economically stable they must grow crops, so that kind of works out for them.
4) The geography of India has positively affected the ferryman. He has learned alot from it just by looking at it and admiring it. "One can learn alot from a river... Certainly. I have learned that too from the river:everything comes again! You too, samana will come again(page 46)." the ferryman is saying how he has seen that things find their way back to where they were, so he doesnt seem surprised that he will see Siddhartha again.
I agree with Peter because the community was together and Siddhartha and Govinda used that to there advantage to find Buddha.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with Kayla the climate brought pain to Siddhartha so he can become a stronger person.
1)Geography is where you live and your surroundings. To me, geography is basically land and water and its features. and i agree with peter on how its the study of Earth.
ReplyDelete2)A positive impact geography has on people around the world is that it allows them to create new transportation and figure out how there going survive like what they are going to eat. it give people no choice but to learn and experience new things with using resources around them and i see that as a good thing. A negative impact geography could have is like Michelle said, that when its isolated. isolation separates people from trade and trade is something that helps with making money.
3)India is bounded to the southwest by the Arabian Sea, to the southeast by the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean to the south. The northern frontiers of India are defined largely by the Himalayan mountain range where its political boundaries with China, Bhutan, and Nepal lie.The Ganges is the longest river originating in India and forms the Indo-Gangetic Plain. India is basically a peninsula, with the Arabian Sea on the west, the Bay of Bengal on the east, and the Indian Ocean to the south. The Himalayan Mountains separate India from much of the rest of Asia and China. The Himalayas have many of the tallest mountains in the world.
4)The geography of India had a negative affect on Siddhartha. He experience pain and he suffered. On page 14 it said "he stood silent in the the vertical blaze of the sun, burning with pain, burning with thirst, and he stood til he felt no pain or thirst". "He stood silent in the rainy season, the water dripping from his hair, over freezing shoulders, over freezing hips and legs, and the penitent stood until his legs and shoulders were no longer freezing, until they felt silent, until they were still". Siddhartha had to deal and suffer with his pain. this brought negativity to him.
1. Geography is the study of Earth. The Roman prefix 'geo-' refers to earth, and the rest of the word ('-graphy') means field of study.
ReplyDelete2. One positive impact of geography is when a villiage is near water, they have 'the four Fs', which are fresh water, fishing, fertile soil, and farming, which keeps the group of people the survive. A negative impact of geography is naturaly disasters, such as tornadoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, and hurricanes.
3. India is located east of Arabian Sea, west of the Bay of Bengal, and north of Indian Ocean. Northern India, especially in the Himalayas, has temperatures according to seasons, such as hot summers and cool winters. Most of southern India, particularly inland, contains high temperature. Temperatures can reach as high as 120 degrees Fahrenheit. India has bumpy physical features such as the Himalayan mountains. With mountains, there can also be water around it. There are mainly three rivers: Himalayan range with its Karakoram branch in the north, Vindhyan and Satpura ranges in Central India, and Sahyadri or Western Chats on the West Coast. All the major rivers of India originate in one or the other of these rivers. How these geography of India affect its people is that with the water, the people can develop food for hunger (fishing) and drinks for thirst (water). Because India isn't surrounded by seas, the people living there can experience cultural diffussion, and became a variety of cultures. With the help of other countries, India may have a powerful politics and economics. They can also have a powerful social system.
4. "Siddhartha stood silent in the vertical blaze of the sun, burning with pain, burning with thirst, and he stood till he felt no pain or thirst." (14) This had a negative impact on Siddhartha because since the setting had a hot weather, it has burnt Siddhartha, leaving him powerless.

ReplyDelete1. Geography is the study of the earth and it's many global features: deserts, lakes, forests, etc...
ReplyDelete2. One positive aspect of gepgraphy would be that civilizations that live near water or forests have many natural resources to choose from. People are able to fish for food, use water for food, bathing, or watering crops. Trees from forests can be used for making new houses or carved into weapons to hunt for food. They can also carve the bark into canoes to sail across the water for transportation. One negative aspect of geography would be that vast mountain ranges or islands can isolated many villages, cutting off their access to information outside their own territory.
3. India is located in the lower right hemisphere and is flanked by the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea on either side, the Himalayan Mountains to the north and northeast, and the Thar Desert to the northwest. The Himalayan Mountains make it hard for the peoples of India to communicate with other countries but they do help ward off the strong winds that could have come in from Central Asia, making India much warmer. The Thar Desert draws in clouds full of moisture toawrds India, allowing them to have good amounts or rainfall.
4. "With a twisted face he stared into the water, saw his face reflected, and he spit at it. In deep fatigue, he loosened his arm...and turned slightly...to plunge in a sheer drop...Closing his eyes, he leaned toward death."(pg.78).India's geography offered a negative affect on Siddhartha's mind. He had come upon a rive and didn't know where else to turn. Because he was already worn out and thought there was no point to his journey, Siddhartha felt the need to just give up. He wanted to rest peacefully and not think anymore, thus wanting to close his eyes and drop into the river.
I agree with Stephanie's agrrement with Elizabeth on the dangers of being out in the open in India. Not only can you die from natural causes, like death, but you can die from the many animals that roam India. Also, the heat takes affect, adding to Aileen's comment, because many people take extreme measures when they are constantly working in the hot climate. Due to fatigue and stress, they are more likely to die because of a heat stroke.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with Victor because even though the Himalayas can prevent some invaders out of India, others can also come in by boat on the Bay of Bengal or the Arabian Sea.

ReplyDelete1. Geography is the study of earth and its features and the study of how its geographical features affects humans' life (something like that).
2. Geography have both positive and negative impacts on people in life. For example, in japan, one positive impact would be the mountains had allowed them to only focus on their own problems and not on other nations' problems too. One negative impact the mountains had on Japan was isolation. Japan became isolated from the world around them.
3. India is a country located in South Asia on the Indian Plate. India has 4 seasons just like the United States. It is surrounded by the Himalayas mountains on some parts which means that their advance in civilization would be slower than the advancement in civilizations at places that's not isolated. India also has the second largest population in the world.
4. The geography of India has a positive impact on Siddhartha. In the beginning of Part Two in the book Siddhartha, he realizes the beauty of nature and his surroundings. "All this had existed, and he never seen it, he had never been prsent. Now he was there, he belonged to it. Light and shadow ran through his eyes, star and moon ran through his heart" (44).

I agree with Aileen's answer for #2. Isolation can have both its good and bad impacts on people. You can focus more on your own life rather than the outsiders' businesses. But it can also separate you from the rest of the world. I have to agree with her last sentence 'Isolation makes diffusion harder to occur and not all resources may be found'. Its true, in MY opinion.
1- Like many of us said in the previous comments, geography is a study of earth science. It includes the mountains, the rivers, and every place that we are stepping on.
ReplyDelete2- The geography of a country has a great impact on its people. In a country like China, there are plenty of industry and factories due to its rich resources; therefore it has the potential to become a rich and powerful country. China was able to use its resources to build up its country. In other words, geography can determine the success of a country, but geography can also have negative impacts on its people. An example can be found from The Sound of Waves (a book that my 9th grade class read). The geography of Uta-Jima had isolated the people on the island. The main character was clueless about the surrounding world. Unlike living in the cities, there was barely any method to reach the outside world. The geography of Uta-Jima had become an obstacle for him.
3- The geography of India is similar to Japan; both of them are being isolated due to their landscape. India is in the tip of Asia, which makes information hard to reach them. In the other hand, India is being cut off by the Himalaya Mountain. It had prevented them from invaders, but trades and other activities are very hard to be accomplished. Even though the geography separated them from the outer world, its geography helped them to remain their culture. In today’s world, Indians still practice Hinduism and Buddhism.
4- The geography of India had a negative impact on Kamaswami. He was the richest man in town and yet he wasn’t happy at all. All he bothers to think about is money. “Siddhartha spent several days in that village, regaling the farmers giving their children copper coins… Kamaswami rebuked him for not returning immediately.” (page 46) He didn’t understand Siddhartha action, instead he scolds for his misunderstanding.
1)Geography is the study of a region's natural features.
ReplyDelete2)A positive impact that geography has had on people around the world is that it allowed people to stay alive. Without the natural resources such as rivers, lakes, and oceans, we would not have water. Water is a necessity for survival. A negative impact that geography has had on the world are its mountains. Mountains can create obstacles for travel and communication.
3) India is located on the continent of Asia. It is bordered by the Himalaya Mountains, as well as three different bodies of water which isolates India from much of the world. The climate in India is relatively warm, and doesn't usually get very cold.
4)Geography has a positive impact on Siddhartha in the book,it helps him learn throughout his journey."He saw the sun rising over the wooded mountains and setting over the distant palm lined shore..."(p.43). As he travels, he sees the world more clearly and appreciates the wonders of nature.
Geography is a study of the earth. Positive impact is that it allows people around the world to be familiar with the earth they live on. Negative impact is the certain way that the earth is structured. It has some countries isolated from others. India's geography is similar to some other countries due to being isolated from others. India is surrounded by mounties and bodies of water. This Indian geography helps the Indian society because traveling is a bit easier then other places. This geography helped Govinda reach the place and goal he's been trying to reach. "Govinda was delighted and joyfully he cried: "Fine then, we have reached our goal and our journey is over." (page 25) Indian geography has a positive impact to Siddhartha. It teaches him to be grateful of the beautiful nature he is surrounded by. "Beautiful was the world if you conteplated it like this, with no seeking, so simple, so childlike. Beautiful were moon and stars.." (page 43)

ReplyDeleteI agree with agree Rima because to be intune you must have a form of communication. In addition, no communication can lead a country into being less advanced than the rest of the world and caused many current countries to be unnoticed and not being able to to communicate for help when needed.
Victor Acevedo
ReplyDeleteI agree with Elizabeth Saballos about how people are being assisted in survival by the physical features in there location, because this is what guides and may assists them to a better place (such as following the path of a river)with protection (tall, steep mountains or a long, dreadful desert), vegetation (lush greenery on the river banks or deltas) support, belief (create a cultural based on the resources supplied by the physical feature) and happiness. Physical features can also cause people to worship and follow what the feature has done through culture and religion due to helping the civilians survive.
Geography is the study of Earth’s physical characteristics. A positive impact of geography on people is that it gives connection between people through trading and farming. A negative impact of geography on people is that in some places, it’s very isolated. Being isolated makes it difficult to connect with others and this prevents cultural diffusion. India is a country in South Asia that’s surrounded by water on three sides meaning India is a peninsula. It consists of mountains, deserts, plains, etc. The climate is mostly warm/hot and possibly humid at most times. The Himalayan Mountains separate India from the rest of Asia which makes it unable to communicate with others. But the Himalayan Mountains can also prevent invaders. The geography of India had a negative impact on Siddhartha because of the climate. “He stood silent in the rainy season, the water dripping from his hair, over freezing shoulders, over freezing hips and legs, and the penitent stood until his legs and shoulders were no longer freezing, until they fell silent, until they were still.”(14). Because of the freezing Siddhartha felt through the rain, it made him stand until his whole body didn’t freeze. The rain caused Siddhartha to stand motionlessly until he felt all the freezing go away.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Stephanie Wang where she stated about the negative affect India geography had on Siddhartha. Because of the surroundings around Siddhartha, he could have been harmed.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Aileen. Being isolated can have an advantage for the people and the land. Isolation keeps invaders from intruding and prevents invaders from taking over.
ReplyDelete1) Geography is the study of Earth and its many features and landscapes.
ReplyDelete2)One positive impact that geography has on the people is when they have rivers or oceans for them to fish, import and export products and land so they can farm. One negative impact is when their land or their rivers isolate them from the rest of the world.
3)India is located in South Asia. India is surrounded by the Himalaya Mountain, and has deserts, hills. India is located near the equator which makes its climate hot. The mountains isolate India from the rest of the world and due to that they can keep their own culture and beliefs. This is known as cultural diffusion. This keeps the people of India from spreading their ideas and interacting from the outside world, the only way their landscape helps them interact with other places is by trade, their imports and exports.
4)A negative impact that the geography had on Siddhartha was when he would dehydrate in the sun. "Siddhartha stood silent in the vertical blaze of the sun, burning with pain"(p.14) As you can see the climate brought Siddhartha pain and suffering.
I agree with Joy Mai when she says that the mountains must of made it difficult for the people of India to interact with the rest of the world
ReplyDeleteI also agree with Aileen when she says that Geography is the study of the wonders or the world. she makes a good point because all the landscapes the world contains are truly wonders
ReplyDeleteStephanie brought up a really good point. While answering number two, I didn’t thought of the surrounding of the geography. Trees are affected by the geography due to temperature and other factor. I also enjoy the work that she did on the comment. There was a lot of detail about India, which makes me very impress.
ReplyDelete1. Geography is the study of the Earth across different regions.
ReplyDelete2.A positive impact that geography has is that it helps people to survive. Humans live off of their areas' resources. A negative impact is that as much as it can help, geography can hurt. People can be isolated by their landscape. An effect of this could be that people can be trapped in a "primitive" way of life while others are moving forward; technologically behind as it were.
3. India is a peninsula. It is surrounded on 3 sides by water and most of the land is made up of mountains, The Himalayas, and plains. The mountains and plains are too treacherous to traverse which puts a major hindrance on how the people of India interact with other countries, or anti cultural diffusion. However, because of their isolation, the people of India have had the chance to create their own society of uninterrupted views and beliefs.
4. In Siddhartha, Siddhartha receives a sense of relief from a river. "...he loosened his arm from the tree trunk and turned slightly in order to plunge in a sheer drop, to go under at last." (pg. 78). Sickened of his new lifestyle and the corruption that he chose to undertake, Siddhartha sees a river that he has crossed once before, and finds that it is a solution to his problem.
Response to Peers:
I agree with Anastasio. True, Siddhartha did sit in brambles to the point where he would bleed causing him pain. However, he did it in hopes of finding what he wanted out of life to make himself happy. This could be seen as a positive effect.
To what Nicholas said, the fact that mountains are an obstruction to those in a war, it can also be a barrier to prevent one. I do agree with your point and what I'm saying is that instead of being a barrier to prevent retreat, it can be a solid wall of protection.
1)Geography is the study of the Earth’s surface or landscapes. It describes the appearance, its’ physical features, of a certain area.
ReplyDelete2)A positive impact of geography on people around the world would be that if the field had a rich soil and it was perfect for farming on, it would help increase the amount of crops we could grow. This helps lead to a bigger amount of supply of food we would have. Thus helping us from not worrying about starving from not having enough food for everyone to eat. A negative impact geography would have on the people around the world would be that if certain areas were to be surrounded by mountains and hard to get around in, many people would be isolated from others. It would make it really difficult to find out more information about other places or what’s going on in the world.
3)India is located in Southern Asia. It has landscapes of mountains, deserts, plains, hills, rivers, and plateaus. The Himalayas Mountains there affect the people greatly. It separates them from the rest of Asia and China. This made it hard for them to communicate with Asia and it wasn’t as easy to obtain information from other parts of the world. The climate in India differentiates due to the different parts of India. The northern part of India has seasonal temperatures. The southern part of India is mostly hot and dry. All areas of India receive an annual monsoon rainfall especially during June through September. This causes many problematic situations since the rainfall could reach up to over a hundred inches in some areas of India and could cause major damage to the villages, cities, etc. They would have to be more alert at times when it happens.
4)The geography of India positively affected Siddhartha through his journey. “Siddhartha learned something new at every step along his path, for the world was transformed, and his heart was enchanted.” (Page 43). While in the forest, he got to observe many things of nature. This helped him realized that nature can be looked upon in a different and simpler way than what he thought it was before. Siddhartha wouldn’t have realized it if he hadn’t gone on this journey in the first place. All that he learns from being in the forest will help him find his true self, which is his goal.
Response to Peers:
ReplyDelete1. I agree with Peter on how he said, “A positive impact that geography had on people in the world is it gave them many natural resources to survive.” It is true how we get many of our natural resources due to the geography of certain areas. This has helped us throughout our life and is a very important fact to understand.
2. I strongly agree with Kayla with her response to question four. Without the harsh weather conditions in India that Siddhartha faces during his journey in the forest, he wouldn’t have experience such a challenge that had taught him to be strong in such conditions. Through the pain he struggled through, he got to learn something new from it and think of it positively instead of being afraid of it.
According to Luis answer for question number 4, he believes that the river has a positive impact on the ferryman, but I believe that it has both a positive and a negative effect. In my opinion, the opportunity to be surprise is very special. The ferryman had never been surprise nor happy, therefore his life is meaningless. In the other hand, the ferryman was able to see clearly. He does not have any desire, which makes him very clever.

ReplyDelete1) Geography is the study of earth
ReplyDelete2) One positive impact is fishing. Fisherman catch fish to earn a living and eat. One negative impact is mountains. Mountains can block travel routes.
3)One of the geography is that there are himalayas. It blocked some of the trade routes. It has 4 different climates which are alpine, tropical, subtropical, and arid. This is bad because it can be sometimes very hot and very cold.
4)India is very small leading to Siddhartha being able to see many things tht happened around the world. He then started to suffer pain and more.
I agree with peter ablout the temperatures of the eahter in Indai which is affected by the climates.
I agree with Carol about the fourth question. while siddhartha traveled around the world, he saw many great things of nature and started to appreciated it.
Geography is the study of earth and its land. One positive impact of geography on people are oceans. For example, you can fish in these large water masses. One negative impact of geography on people are mountains. Mountains block the routes so people can't travel to trade. A geography feature of India is that it is surrounded with mountains, with a large mountain known as Himalayas. There are many different climate changes such as tropical, alphine, arid, and subtropical. The climates have a great effect on India because the weather is also changing rapidly. India's geography postively affected Siddihartha on his journey because he was able to learn many new things such as the value of nature.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Tony that the geography has helped fiherman find a living .
I agree with Claudia that Siddhartha has learned many new things on his journey.
1)Geography is the study of the earth and its features that make it different from other places.
ReplyDelete2)One positive impact that geography has on people around the world is the ocean. The ocean has a positive impact because it provides food for maybe fisherman to support their families. One negative impact that geography has on people around the world is mountains. Mountains keep their inhabitants isolated from the rest of the world.
3) India's feature's and geography keep India isolated from the rest of the world because India is mostly surrounded by mountains and deserts which keep its inhabitants isolated and keeps them from spreading their culture to the rest of the world.
4) A negative impact was India's climate. In India its weather is very hot that is why people native to India ride through the deserts on camels and have plenty of water. Siddartha had it hard because he traveled very far to find the meaning of life but its climate made his journey difficult. (Siddartha stood...vertical blaze of the sun)pg 14 paragraph 1
1)I agree with tony becuase during siddartha's journey he learned many things that changed him into someone better.
ReplyDelete2)I agree with Claudia because in India it isn't always hot.
1. Geography is the study of the Earth and its lands, features, inhabitants, and phenomena.
ReplyDelete2. Geography can greatly impact the growth of a nation and it's culture. An postive example of that is Japan. Japan is an island surrounded by water. It isolated Japan from it's invaders and provide a peaceful life. It also allows the Japanese and to fish and have an advance technology of sailing. An negative example of geography are mountains. Greece is an nation built on mountains. It's gepgraphy divided Greece into different city-state. Each city-state has it's own law and military. Greece wasn't able to be united until Alexander The Great took over it. Then they became much more powerful than before they join force. They took over most of the world is make a make on history.
3. India is located in south Asia. It is the seventh largest country in the world. India's geography is very unique becasue India contain a lot of different kind of geographies, from mountians and desert. You can find almost every religion in India today. Most of the Indian are Hindus, Muslim and Buddist. Indian depend their living on farm, handicraft, and other manufacture goods.
4. One feature of the geography of India is Forest. There are a lot of dangerous animal living in a forest."I saw you lying and sleeping in this place, where it is dangerous to sleep" (p.81) Govinda pass by Sid and saw him sleeping in an dangerous area. Govinda knows it is not safe to sleep in the forest and try to warn Sid. Geography has an impact of Siddhartha.
1. Geography is the study of physical and natural features as well as the climate and location of an area of land.
ReplyDelete2. One way that geography could positively (as well as negatively) impact people is that geography could affect the rate of one society's expansion, advancements, and survival of the people. For example, if an area has a good ecosystem, then people could expand their territories easily and survival wouldn't be a problem as well as a good flow of ideas, especially new ideas can bring advancements through good trading. This impact could also negatively impact people in the opposite way. Another negative impact on people or a society is that harsh climates or geographical features of an area could create barriers between people in their land; those barriers could make the society hard to be ruled by one leader or it could cause a bad communication. For example, if a body of water becomes a barrier between two lands of one nation, then it is possible for their ruler to have a bad communication with its people or communicating between the ruler and its people would take a longer period of time for the news or message to arrive at either side of land. For example, around the years of the American Revolution, the only way for the messages from the king to its colonies was by ship through the Atlantic Ocean but this trip to and fro often took a few days or even months to reach its people; which it could be a little too late for the message to arrive to the king or to its people.
3. In the land of India, there is various types of natural habitats including mountain ranges, valleys, desert ranges, fertile plains, tropical rain forests, the coastal areas, as well as dry plateaus and more. The land's geography had given the Indians interactions with many animals and some of these animals are part of their belief system. And during the era of the Silk Trade, cultural diffusion was brought along to its people through trade. For example, this is how different types of Buddhism exists today through Asia.
4. Geography gave a negatively and or positive impact to Siddhartha in the beginning of the story. It had said, " Once, samanas had passed through Siddhartha's town, wandering ascetics... From them a hot scent of silent passion came wafting, ascent of devastating service, of pitiless unselfing...'Tomorrow morning, my friend SIddhartha will join the samanas'...Now it is the beginning of Siddhartha, now Siddhartha is following his path, now his destiny is starting to sprout and mine with his (Govinda's)." (page 8) Traveling in India along the routes from city to city brought the samanas to where Siddhartha was living at the time. The climate at that time along the road must have been very hard to survive in, but the samanas still made it to that city. The samanas' appearance must have been out of the ordinary after all the severe weathers they have gone through before they arrived at the hometown of Siddhartha's. Since geography influenced the samanas negatively, this causes a little chain reaction and effects Siddhartha's life also. This impact would be considered positive because it is giving a way to start SIddhartha's journey to what he wants to reach as a goal in life. Since Siddhartha had wanted to gain more knowledge, this was his chance to explore the existing world around him and learn from what he observes. This impact would also be considered a negative impact because it is what starts Siddhartha to suffer for unselfing and to be desire-less.
1. Geography is the study of Earth, its features, and phenomena.
ReplyDelete2. A positive impact geography has on people around the world is that it could provide people living in a certain area with the needed resources.
A negative impact geography has on people around the world is that it could isolate some countries from others which can cause a lack of communication.
3. India is a peninsula located in South Asia and is sort of isolated because of its location. It is bounded by the Indian Ocean, the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. North of India is the Himalayan Mountains which separates India from northern countries. The climate can be hot at times because India is close to the equator but the climate can change depending on the season. These features have helped India form new belief systems and ideas which easily spread and the bodies of water have helped people with trade.
4. Climate had a negative impact on Siddhartha because it put physical pain on him. “… with dusty and bloody shoulders, well-night naked, singed by the sun…” (Page 8)
I agree with the negative impact Cassidy Charles mentioned because being isolated could sometimes decrease the communication between countries.
I agree with Chris Benicio because rivers can help you get resources. The bodies of water around India helped with its trading and economy.
Salma Nakhlawi
ReplyDelete1. What is geography?
Geography is the study of the earth's surface.
2. Describe one positive impact of geography on people around the world and one negative impact of geography on people around the world.
One positive impact of geography is the resources that it brings to a certain area. For example, a river or lake can be a good supply of water for a certain area. A wooded area can utilized for timber and firewood.
One negative impact of geography upon people around the world is isolation. Geography such as mountains, rivers, oceans, and other barriers can make it hard for people to move around from place to place. On the other hand, it can also be useful for warfare and make it hard for the enemy to cross into another territory.
3. Describe the geographic features of India including location, climate, physical features, etc. Explain how these features have helped and/or hindered the development of Indian society. (Hint: Think about cultural diffusion and political, economic, and social systems.)
India is located in South Asia and it is a peninsula. It is the seventh largest country in the world. Indian has a hot climate. It's climate can be described as Alpine, Subtropical, Tropical and Arid. This means that lots of crops can be grown there due to the good climate. Crops such as tea and mangoes can be grown there. India has many of mountains, hills, seas, and plains. One mountain in Indian is the Himalayan Mountain range. The Himalayas set it apart from the rest of Asia. This would explain why India is isolated. However, being isolated makes it difficult to attack in a war. Being isolated also explains why India is a third world world country and why it is hard to reach.
4. Explain one example of how the geography of India negatively and/or positively affected Siddhartha or another character in the novel. (Remember to cite the page numbers.)
One example of how the geography of India positively affects Siddhartha in this novel is when Siddhartha meditates by the banyan tree. The tree is a result of nature. Meditating by the banyan tree brings him peace and a chance to be connected to his friend Govinda. On page seven, it states " They went to the banyan tree, they sat down, here Siddhartha, twenty paces further Govinda. Sitting down, ready to speak the om, Siddhartha, murmuring, repeated the verses:
Om is the bow, the arrow is the soul,
Brahma is the arrow's goal,
It must be stuck unswervingly.”
3)Some geography features of India is that it is cut off from other countries by the Himalaya Mountain. A negative impact from the isolation is that it slowed down the development of India society, since India is isolated from other countries ideas and inventions couldn't be shared in India. A positive effect from the isolation is that it allowed them to create a unique belief system. It also kept invasions from other countries out.
I agree with Victor Fung's response. India is cut off from other countries by the Himalayas and that isolates it to a point where it is difficult to have cultural diffusion. However, isolation is good and protects India from invasion. I like how Victor stated that Hinduism is a very unique belief system as it was kept in India for quite some time before it was spread around.
4.A negative impact that geography had on Siddhartha was the extreme heat. "Siddhartha stood silent in the vertical blaze of the sun, burning with pain..."(p.14). The fact that it's mostly hot during the year in India means that the sun will be out a lot, making it very hot.
Shenelle Reddick's response made me think about the dedication that Siddhartha has to his religion. Extremities in weather do not stop him when he meditates, fasts, or prays. His commitment and passion for his religion make him brave the cold or hot weather and do whatever it is that he needs to do.
I agree with Nicholas Maddalena on the impact of geography on the main characters (Siddhartha and Govinda). To elaborate on it, merchants and other groups of people also gave way of communicating about rumors and news. I think that is how news went from city to city back then.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with Stephanie's idea on how the geography impacted the characters, Siddhartha and Govinda. In fact, it shows that Siddhartha must have not expected to be at sleeping spot that he chose that could possibly take his life away. This action of Govinda also shows me that even though Goinda hadn't seen Siddhartha in a while, Govinda is still caring about Siddhartha.
1. Geography is the study of the Earth's landscapes and features.
ReplyDelete2.One positive impact geography has on people is that it could provide them with food and protection. One negative impact geography could have on people is that it could isolate people. They wouldn't have trade or know anyone in other places of the world
3.India has many different geographical features. It has mountain ranges, plains, and deserts. The whole country has tropical climate and dry winters. India's mountains separate it from the ocean and a small island that is apart of India. It is hard to socialize with the small island.
4.Geography had a positive impact on Siddhartha because when he came to the river and met the ferryman and(on page 46)the ferryman says "'I have learned that too from the river: everything comes again! You too, samana, will come again'". If Siddhartha was not challenged by the river and did not require the services of the ferryman; Siddhartha would not have learned something new.
1)It's a science that usually deals with the topographical features of the land; usually Earth.
ReplyDelete2)One positive impact of geography on some people around the world can be safety. Some places in the world are very secluded and easy to defend. This makes it a safe place to live and it gives people who live there peace of mind. They don't feel the need to worry about their safety and that gives them more time to just live their life in anyway they want.
-One negative impact of geography on some people around the world is lack of resources. A place can be a very natural environment with a civilization that isn't very advanced and that can cause problems. If they haven't learned how to communicate internationally through cultural diffusion then they have no way of getting help if they run out of food and shelter. Or if a sudden disease spreads and they can't find a natural cure. Then that civilization can die out without anyone ever knowing the things they might have known or discovered.
3)India is bordered by Pakistan, China, Nepal, and Bangladesh. It resides in Asia near the Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea. The climate is influenced by the Himalayas and the Thar Desert(Wiki). The country has a tropical climate that consists of high temperatures and dry winters. The Himalayas and Thar Desert are big physical features. The Himalayas have helped the development of Indian society because the region is rich in vegetation life. I would assume the tropical climate has helped the economy by making it a vacation destination for travelers.
4)In my opinion a way that geography affected Siddhartha both positively and negatively depending on perspective would be when the book mentions him on page 14. Its says he is standing in the blaze of the sun; burning but remaining silent and still. He did the same in the rainy season. This can be positive because he kind of learns to discipline his mind. To become empty and feel no pain. To achieve his goal of enlightenment. This can be negative because it is obviously hazardous to his health. It is mentioned that he is in a lot of pain; burning with thirst.
I really enjoyed Michelle Wu's response to "What is geography?" I'm being completely serious. I really like it because it is so simple, but it says so much. It made me realize that I may have made my answer too complicated.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Rima's answer to a negative impact of geography. Lack of communication leads to exactly what she described which is lack of cultural diffusion. This can cause entire civilizations to never be discovered and decline due to the place where they live; which I think is horrible when we imagine all the great things that civilization might have had to offer.
ReplyDelete1.Geography is features of the world such as mountains, rivers, and land.
ReplyDelete2.One positive impact that geography has on people is rivers.Rivers impacts people in a positive way is that they can use the water to bath and fish.A negative impact that geography has on people is water. It can be a negative impact because there can be a flood and people can die. This is how geography has a positive and negative impact on te people in the world.
3.India is surrounded by a body of water and China. The climate is hot.Being around China and a body of water is good. You can interact with China and start trading. The body of water can help you because you an bath and fish.It is a bad thing that the climate s hot. It is bad because it will be hard to work and travel from place to place.
4.A geograpical feature that n the book Siddhartha is climate. On page 14 it sad that Siddhartha was standing in the heat and his skin was burning.
Geography is features in which the world lives upon, such as locations, climate and the environment (surroundings).
ReplyDeleteA positive impact geography has around the world is it improves people knowledge about a place which then determines the structure of how its built. For example; it determines the life styles we live in for example Japan is isolated because of mountains and their life style is based on this because they didn't have a variety of trade and they eat a lot of fish cause they are surrounded bye large bodies of water.
A negative impact geography has around the world is the hazards of volcanoes and earthquakes caused by mother nature which can make survival hazardous.
India is the seventh largest body of land it is surrounded by 3 bodies of water the Arabian sea located off the West coast, the Indian ocean on the South and the bay of Bengal on its eastern side. India is separated from the rest of Asia by the Great Himalayan range.Since India is so large the climate determines on the time of the year. India also has a population of over one billion. Based on India's location it has a a wide variety of culture, traditional and religious diversity.
The geography of India helped siddhartha posotivley in his traveling for his journey of finding inner peace. With the water sourrounded by india helped traveling by boat much easier for him in his conquest for his desire.(P.3 fretful thoughts of water flowing in from the river)
1)Geography is study of characteristics of a specific place.
ReplyDelete2)One positive impact geography have on people is learning the environment so they know how to survive in the environment . For example, if its a really rocky area with no water around , they would have to invent a new way of farming. Inca lived in mountains and very difficult to farm, so they invented irrigation and grew many crops.
One negative impact on society is isolation. Some countries are separated from other countries by desert , mountains , rivers , and other obstacles. Due to these obstacles, interaction with other countries are very rare, therefore, their civilization don't advance much.
3)India is located in southern Asia bordering the Arabian sea and the Bay of Bengal . India is between Burma and Pakistan. In the northern part of India is the Himalayas and the Thar Desert. Himalayas prevented cold wind from blowing in and keep the India climates warmer. Cultural diffusion was difficult because of the Himalayas and the Thar Desert preventing others from sharing ideas to other countries.
4)River cheer up Siddhartha and fills him with joy. "But the new Siddhartha felt a deep love for this streaming water and he resolved not to leave it again so soon"(88). Also, Siddhartha had to cross the river to reach enlightenment.
I agree with Wan Yu that the geography had isolated people from other places and hard to share ideas with each other. Also, i like the way she compare it to the book "The Sound of Waves".
I agree with Wendy that geography can also impact your beliefs system because some religion is based on what kind of animals, food, and other resources it has in the environment. For example, Egyptians had told many stories about the Nile river, and they worshiped it.
PS my first one (Kevin Weng) was my nickname and this is my real name
1)Geography is the physical study of the earth, specifically a certain area.Physical meaning anything from climate, resources,
ReplyDeletepopulation and even the terrain itself.
2)One positive impact geography can have on people is that it gives people the resources to help satisfy their needs.Agreeing with Tony, geography can provide food.A great example he used was fish. Whether it may be a river or berry tree, these variables will greatly depend on the populations survival and their knowledge to gather these resources. Knowing that, geography can be negative if it either gives too much, or too little. By "it" I mean the specific thing or variable in an area. A good example is the rain.Having too much can be bad(floods), yet having too little might be bad also(droughts).
3)India, the seventh largest country in the world, is located in south Asia. The climate in India can vary in different places. The west side contains more desert conditions. In the north, there are arctic temperatures and glaciers. The south western part contains more of a humid tropical feeling(wiki). The Himalayas(mountains) act as a barrier to the cold winds that are aiming towards India. Giving India a overall tropical feel. However the Himalayas are also a bad thing because it pretty much blocks of the rest of Asia. This reduced cultural diffusion, lack of spreading ideas and even decreased trading.
4)As Siddhartha sat under the mango tree. Thoughts were running through his head."Here I sit under my mango tree in my pleasure garden. He smiled faintly. Was it really necessary, was it right, was it not a foolish game to own a mango tree, to own a garden?"(75). The tropical climates allowed for Siddhartha to have his garden, and to have his mango tree. Now he sits under it, thinking if it was really necessary to have all this. In the end his beliefs influence him to give the mango tree away.
~~~~I strongly agree with Tony (look back at number 2)
~~~~Blanca, you do have a point. If a certain place is always kept safe people are able to live their lives, versus those who are constantly on the look out. A great example that I can relate with your statement is Sparta. They were a small city state and were attacked constantly. As a result they became Greece's dominant military power.
1.Geography is the study of the Earth and its features such as the land and inhabitants.
ReplyDelete2.One positive effect is that every countries geography is different therefore there is different resources among them which they can use for living and trading. One negative effect is that some countries are isolated because of their geography and there are only a small amount of ways for them to trade.
3.India is a peninsula which means its surrounded by water. It is located in South Asia and it is very hot.It contains various mountains and it has deserts which makes it hot.Since it is surrounded by mountains its mainly isolated by land but not through water since it has various ports and docks. This mostly influences a persons life, culture, food, and resources.
4."Sun tanned Siddhartha's light shoulders on the riverbank when he bathed, when he performed his holy ablution, his holy offerings"(3). India's geography has helped Siddhartha become a better person since the heat and other factors have made him suffer and overcome desire and helped him to fast longer.

ReplyDelete1. I agree with Tony on his point where geography impacts the lives of fisherman and helps them catch fish.
2.I agree with Elizabeth Bonilla on the fact that there are negative impacts of geography like various forms of living things and when the snake bit Kamala its a good example that anything can be a negative impact even ourselves.
1)Geography is writing about earth and the study of it.
ReplyDelete2)A positive influence on the world in diffrent places and diffrent ambients , is that each place is unique. Due to the isolations and diffrent landscapes all over. geography usually collides with trading inport and expor , farming, and in general just living. This effect can go both into a positive , and negative influence. Specifica geography can lead to gentrification. Where certain aspects of gentrfication can lead to problems and contreversey.
3)India is located in south asia, on its northern border line, it has china bangledesh , nepal, and pakistan surronding it. the rest of the country is bounded by the indian ocean, arabian sea, and bay of bengal, making india a peninsula. Due to the fact is has a lot of mountains in the land it makes some isolation within. Also having available docks and places to import/export it causes some communication and influence in a persons life. As previously writin , this can lead to a mass amount of good or bad. This can make communites closer, and more together, because of geography making more social interaction.
4)"the father sat on the ma, and the stars driftedacross the sky. Then the father said:"It is not fittin for a brahmin to speak angry and violent words. But indignation moves my heart. I do not wish to hear that request a second time from y our lips"(9) India's geography has influenced siddhartha's dad. It has affected his state of mind, religion, and beliefs. He stands as a well corrected man, due to the social interaction, and the countries situation.

ReplyDelete1)"A positive impact geography has around the world is it improves people knowledge about a place which then determines the structure of how its built"- in regards to this comment made by nour, i agree with it because, geography doesnt only effect the country in general , but it affects the knoledge and intrest in the people living in it.
2)"This Indian geography helps the Indian society because traveling is a bit easier then other places." I also agree with what burcu said, it reminded me of how new york's geography makes it kind of easy to access due to it being on the atlantic ocean coast.
1. Geography is a study of the Earth and its features and lands.
ReplyDelete2. A positive impact geography can have on some people around the world is protection from enemies. For example, the mountains and the desert surrounding China is protecting China and its people from invasions and attacks that other countries can inflict.
A negative impact geography can have on some people is isolation. People cannot interact with others because of the mountains, rivers, oceans and deserts. A country that is isolated from other countries can have a disadvantage. Countries that interact with others are more advance than countries that are isolated since they get ideas from other countries and makes them better.
3. India is located southwest of China and is surrounded by a body of water called Arabian Sea. India has mountain ranges, plain, deserts, plateau, ocean and rivers. There are different types of weather depending on the region of India one is in. It can be wet, dry, humid or tropical depending on which region you are in. The climate and weather can help the development of Indian society because of the harvest that is grown. The more harvest there is then the better the economy is, the better the civilization becomes.
4. I believe that the geography of India affected Siddhartha positively and negatively. "Siddhartha stood silent in the vertical blaze of the sun, burning with pain...and stood till he felt no pain"(14) The pain and the thirst negatively affected Siddhartha which caused him to be uncomfortable. However, due to this Siddhartha got stronger and wiser. He learned to endure.
Geography is the study of the natural features of the earth's surface.
ReplyDeleteOne positive impact of geography on the lives of humans is that early civilizations used irrigation systems to grow more food, enabling them to expand and grow. One negative impact of geography on people around the world is Pollution. Pollution is harmful to all living things and can take many forms including, air pollution from the burning of fossil fuels.
India is located in Southern Asia, bordering the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, between Burma and Pakistan. India, with an area of 3.3 million sq. km, has a tropical climate marked by relatively high temperatures and dry winters. The Himalayan Mountains separate India from much of the rest of Asia and China. Just south of the Himalayas is the Indo-Gangetic Plain which lies between the Indus and Ganges rivers. On the north-western end of India is the Thar Desert. Most of southern India is the Deccan Plateau, which is mostly rolling hills with many rivers. Because of this diverse land, there has been a diversity of culture, traditions and language in India. A caste system has been put in place, and culture has grown to be accepting of other religious beliefs. With the spread of ideas from different places and people, it makes cultural diffusion easier.
“He stood silent in the rainy season, the water dripping from his hair, over freezing shoulders… and learned to save breath.” (pg 14) This quote is an example of how the geography of India positively affected Siddhartha. Siddhartha has a desire for a spiritual understanding of himself and the world. This weather helped him practice and learn the lessons of the samanas. Even though it brought him pain and suffering, it taught him to become spiritually stronger.
I agree with what Emily had wrote "This can make communites closer, and more together, because of geography making more social interaction." because it is true that isolation can negatively affect how people communicate.
ReplyDeleteI strongly agree with Way Sey Leung and his concluding sentence, "However, due to this Siddhartha got stronger and wiser. He learned to endure." because the pain did help Siddartha learn to forget these desires. He is dedicated to his personal quest for knowledge.
1) Geograpy is the study of the eartth, it's structure an it's inhabitants.
ReplyDelete2) A positive impact of geography is that it gives people different kinds of advantages such as rivers and lakes give people fish and water to farm and survive.
A negative impact of geography is the mountains and too many oceans leading to isolation which excommunicates countries into having no trade or route.
3)India is the seventh largest country in the world which occupies 2.4%of the world's land area. It has deserts, plains, hills, plateus and snow-capped mountains. It's climate is usually hot due to the Himalayan altitudesbeing equatorial in the extreme south and tundra. India is isolated and thus has some advantages over other countries. The reason being they can come up with new products and ideas and eventually grow their economy by shipping them over seas. They can also be safe from invasions by other countries.
4)The climate of India affected Siddharta both positively and negatively. The evidence is shown on page 14, " Siddharta stood in the vertical blaze of the sun, burning in pain, burning in thirst. He stood silent in the rainy seasons, the water dripping from his hair, over freezing shoulders, over freezing hips and legs." The climate of India affects Siddharta because he doesn't know what to expect and thus feels uncomfortable. But he learns to oversome it as time passes.
1)Geography is the study of the earth and its features.
ReplyDelete2)Geography can have many positive and negative impacts on people around the world. A positive impact can be resources. Resources are what help human beings survive. These resources can be found on the land where people live or they can come from other places through trade. One negative impact is living somewhere where there are physical barriers like mountains or large bodies of water surrounding an area. Places like these are often isolated. Isolation can make it very hard to survive because there would be no interaction or trade and some places that are isolated have no good resources of their own and depend on trade for it's inhabitants to survive.
3) India is a very large country. It is 2,973,190 square kilometers full of land. It is surrounded by 314,400 square kilometers of water. By being surrounded by so much water India does well economically because the water does not isolate them but helps them with trade.
4)The geography/climate of India both positively and negatively affected Siddhartha. "Siddhartha stood silent in the vertical blaze of the sun, burning with pain, burning with thirst, and he stood till he felt no pain or thirst"(14). This quote shows that in India it is very sunny and hot. This had a negative impact on Siddhartha because it had brought him pain yet it had a positive affect on him because he learned to get used to it until he felt no pain at all.
Geography is ones' surroundings. It's where they live, and it usually affects the way the people there live their lives. One positive impact geography has on people around the world is that they learn to make a living based on their surroundings. For example if you lived in a place with many water resources surrounding you, you would probably be a farmer or a fisher. The negative influence geography can have on people is isolation. People who are isolated have no idea what is going on outside of what they're used to. Also, they don't have inventions from other places, which is more work for them. India is very isolated. There are many deserts and mountains ( Himalayas) that seperate them. Since India is seperated from other places, they all speak the same language, and do not have a language barrier. Therefore, Siddhartha was able to hear about Gautama. On pg. 29 it states '' Both of us have heard the Sublime One, both of us have listened to his Teaching.'' Siddhartha and Govinda were able to hear about ''The Sublime One'' and they were able to go and listen to his teaching. They were both able to learn more about this new religion. Since they were isolated, there was no such thing as a language barrier, and they were all able to understand one another. That is how geography positively influenced Siddhartha.
ReplyDeleteI am not very sure if it's okay being the last one to post a comment, but i wanted to give more insight
ReplyDelete1.Geography is the natural features of an area. Many places of geography include North America, South America, and all of the seven continents. In addition, the way the areas are arranged most likely effect the way people live, and regulate their daily lifestyle. Also geography effects the actions and develops the characteristics of others. Moreover, many people are affected by the geography based on their natural habitat, and their clothing is highly affected.
2.Their are a variety amount of people that are affected around the world negatively and positively from geography. One positive aspect that geography can effect a person when they are residents in Antarctica because even though they don't have a lot of food like New York, they still hunt and forage for their food. Not only does many people have to be a person that is determined, but they must pursue their daily activities so they can look forward to the great possibilities in life. The negative drawback of geography is located in Japan because even though they are experiencing ecstasy and happiness they are effected because the people their are dealing with lack of communication with the outside areas such as the other continents. Sometimes it is better to get aid from other people instead of provoking more distress.

ReplyDelete1)I agree with what Ruben said because the different geographies of different countries bring different resources. This is what brings trade and interaction.
2)I also agree with Anthony Grullon because geography can cause isolation and isolation between places can cause lack of interaction.
3. There are many ways of describing India, because it is created based on its features. For example, India is a peninsula with the Arabian Sea on the west, the Bay of Bengal on the east, and the Indian Ocean to the south. Also there are Himalayan Mountains that separate India from Asia and China. Also the climate is a bit scorching and it also consists of deserts. India has developed its civilization because of trade, trading helps gain the mobility most people have and it develops stronger communication between people, but not only are people communicating based on trading, they also experience numerous ethnicities. India relates to New York City because it is a symbolic meaning of different nationalities. Ultimately, India is a mixture of physical features from around the globe.
ReplyDelete4. Siddhartha has been positively affected by the geography of India due to his actions. For instance, in the book Siddhartha, Siddhartha has been evolving in the book because in the beginning he had many desires, but he didn't feel like himself. In addition, he wanted to be really determined and to seek the knowledge that his father never sought before. Although, he is on his odyssey he notices that it is a bit struggling to become a Samana and he wants to follow the Buddhism faith. Siddhartha used to always make people happy, but he wanted to gain contentment within himself. "Siddhartha had a goal, a single one..in the heart had fallen silent, then the ultimate was bound to awaken…which is no longer ego, the great secret"(14). This quote exemplifies geography and how it changed Siddhartha, because even though their was Hinduism, he finally realized that he wanted to become more valiant and have a lot of positive outcomes. Geography really highlighted his life based on his different decisions. As a result, Siddhartha is developing more proficiency and knowledge, which creates a sturdy individual at heart.
I agree with Ruben because it basically enlightens us with the definition of geography, it has many physical features which creates our lifestyles. Secondly, I also agree with Stephanie because it gave a lot of detail about the Indian civilization, and the climate.
ReplyDelete1)Geography is the study of a regions physical features and/or landscape.
ReplyDelete2)Geography can have many positive and negative affects on a nation and its culture. One Geographical feature that creates both positive and negative impacts on a nation is the feature of isolation. Many nations such as Japan and China have benefited from the affects of being isolated. From being isolated these two nations have been able to ward off invaders and keep there traditions and cultures for years. However other nations like Greece were disadvantaged by being isolated. Since Greece is cut off from the world and its self by hazardous mountains and other dangerous geographical features it was never able to unite itself. Eventually it was subjected to a massive invasion because of its separation which was caused by being isolated to begin with.
3)India is surrounded by two large bodies of water, the Bay of Bengal an the Arabian Sea. It is bordered by both Bangladesh and Pakistan. Being the seventh largest country in the world India has many different geographical features and various climate changes. For the most part India’s climate is usually very hot and has many dry winters. India can be considered mountainous due to it being home to the Himalaya mountains however there are many other geographical features such as deserts, plains and many hills. India being cut off from the world by the Himalaya’s and being directly next to the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal puts India at a advantage. Being an isolated country India is safe from other invading nations for the most part, and being right next to two large bodies of water gives India the ability to mold their economy by using the ship and trade system.
4)The Indian climate had a negative affect on Siddhartha. The extreme heat in India brought much pain to Siddhartha, however it also made him able to learn to survive extreme weather conditions and made him become a stronger man.
I agree with Wey Sey, its true that by bearing the pain from the sun helped him become stronger and wiser.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Ruben, the heat did help him overcome his desires but I also believe they helped him become stronger and wiser.
ReplyDelete1. Geography is the physical characteristics of an area. It is the features of a place. Geography describes the surface of the Earth.
ReplyDelete2. A positive impact of geography on people around the world is having rivers around. People can travel by boats to trade with others from places. This is an advantage to them because they have easy access to water. Water is needed by everyone and used everyday, it is part of their everyday life.
One negative impact of geography on people around the world is being isolated by mountains, deserts, or the ocean. The island that is isolated isn't as advanced as other places because ideas don't spread faster to isolated islands. It will take a long time before it gets to isolated places. It will be hard for others to get to this place because it is isolated and hard for others to find. Geography can be a disadvantage for others. Trading isn't going on much because it is hard to go to the isolated places. It is difficult to have connection with others.
3. India is the largest peninsula of southern Asia and several smaller states. There is a great mountain wall along the north. It is difficult for people to cross it and cuts it off from the rest of the continent. There are mountains and rivers aound India. There is the Indus River Valley, Monsoons, and the Himalayas Mountain. The Indus River Valley had helped and hindered the development of the Indian society. The river lead to an advanced society. The river had also hindered the development of the society by flooding and creating slits. The achievements of India was plumbing, sewers, Urban Planning and many more.
4. The geography of India negatively affected Siddhartha in the novel. "He stood silent in the rainy season, the water dripping from his hair, over freezing shoulders, over freezing hips and legs, and the penitent stood until his legs and shoulders were no longer freezing, until they fell silent, until they were still" (14). The climate of India affected Siddhartha. India had rainy seasons often. In the novel, Siddhartha was freezing because of the rainy season and had got wet all over.
I disagree with Peter that a positive impact that geography had on people in the world is that it gave them many natural resources to survive. I disagree with him because there isn't always natural resources for people to survive. There isn't many natural resources that will be forever there for others to survive.
I disagree with Elizabeth Saballos that a positive impact of geography on people around the world is that Earth's features help people to live depending on which parts of the world they live. Not every of Earth's features will help the people to live whether where they live. Some of Earth's features prevent people to live. You can't exactly on Earth's features. Some of Earth's features like the desert helps people to live. It is hard to live in the desert. It is hard to get through it, hot and always dehydrated because of the heatness.
1. Geography is the study of the Earth's surface and its features.
ReplyDelete2. One positive impact geography has on people is that there is fertile land if near river. Many tribes or villages settle near water so they can grow crops and survive. One negative impact geography has on people is that if they are surrounded by mountains, they are isolated and it is difficult to trade to other countries.
3. India is located in the Middle East. The climate there are hot summers and dry winters. India is surrounded by the desert and the sea. It is located near the Silk Road. Since India is located near the Silk Road it is easy for them to trade goods around the world. This causes cultural diffusion between different countries. Religion also goes through the Silk Road, so Hinduism and Buddhism is spread through the world.
4. The climate in India had a negative impact on Siddhartha. "Siddhartha stood silent in the vertical blaze of the sun, burning with pain, burning with thirst, and stood till he felt no pain or thirst.(page 14)" Due to the dry climate and hot temperatures Siddhartha had felt thirst and pain from the heat. This soon caused him to become numb and feel no pain.
I agree with Ka Yan, due to the extreme climate in India Siddhartha had to face harsh conditions.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Logan, the heat caused Siddhartha become a stronger person. He will feel not as much pain as before if he gets used to the sun.
I agree with Vanessa Song, geography can really helpful or hurtful to a society. The water will have good soil near it for crops. But,mountains could make it hard for people to travel which will make them isolated.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Hannabelle Mendez, the geography did help with Siddhartha's practices but it did have a negative impact also because it brought him pain.

ReplyDeleteGood day,
ReplyDeleteGeography is the study of earth in its material, external form. The resultant composition of this information and a visible form of study leads to the creation of maps, which are important to the overall definition of geography.
---------------------------------------------
One positive impact that geography has on people is that it displays the earth as not a smooth piece of land, but as a land that is composed of different landforms and bodies of water, all on a scale of uniqueness like no other. Because of this, different civilizations face different challenges when trying to better develop their societies. And so, different societies in different parts of the world hold different pieces to the puzzle, the puzzle being, how to establish a well developed society on earth. This encourages cultural diffusion between between people all across the world and in order to better understand the earths geography, forces different people to study each other and share knowledge. Unity through uniqueness, that's positive. Well done geography, well done.
---------------------------------------------
One negative impact geography has on people, is that its always changing. Because of this, people might never be able to develop a map of earth that displays the sort of consistence that you see in a lot of other subjects such as physics and chemistry etc....might never really come to be. Sad.
---------------------------------------------
Geography has a huge impact on the spreading of Buddhism(specifically), beginning from INDIA and spreading throughout the world. SO BASICALLY....
WEST OF INDIA: MAJOR OCCUPATION OF ISLAM AND JUDISM, CONSTANT CONFLICTS=NOT SAFE OR VERY SUCCESSFUL ENVIRONMENT FOR BUDDHISM.
NORTH OF INDIA: HIMALAYAS AND OTHER FORMS OF BLOCKAGE SUCH AS HUGE MOUNTAIN RANGES=TOO HARD FOR BUDDHISTS TO TRAVEL THROUGH.
SOUTH OF INDIA: WATER, WATER, AND...WOW, MORE WATER! BET YOU DIDN'T SEE THAT ONE COMING.
EAST OF INDIA: RELIGIOUSLY PEACEFUL AND UNOCCUPIED. ALSO CALM/ACCEPTABLE FOR TRAVEL=BINGO! PERFECT PLACE FOR BUDDHISTS AND BUDDHISM TO EXPAND!
Alright, so now we have Europe, dominated by Christianity. Christianity looks bold, strong, and ready to rumble. Then you have four different major belief systems, most of which are in states of conflict with neighboring belief systems. The connection of faith and religious control/dominance is weak in Asia and most of the Middle East. So now, it looks a little something like this...
BUDDHISM TRIES TO SPREAD THROUGH EUROPE BY APPROACHING EUROPE FROM THE EAST. NOPE, EUROPE IS TOO BIG AND C-o-n-n-e-c-t-e-d(religiously). THE OPERATION IS UNSUCCESSFUL.
So that's my take on why Buddhism, which started in India, never had much success trying to spread in directions besides east of India.
---------------------------------------------You see, Siddhartha goes through two main types of experiences in life. Spiritual experiences, and experiences as a human living in the materialistically expressed world of money, greed, lust, and other humanly emotions of the "EGO". The Geography in which Buddhist's, Hindu's, and Samana's tend to practice consists of mountainous valleys that express the beauty of nature. On the other hand, cities of the materialistic world/"state of being" are built upon flat, barren geography that is ideal not for the growth of the soul, but for the growth of materialistic concepts such as money(banking), gambling, entertainment(dancing) and more. In all, the different geography that Siddhartha travels through, represents his own "state of being", which bounces to and from "spiritual" and "materialistic". I can't exactly give a quote, as this is an explanation composed of various worlds/experiences in SIDDHARTHA.
----------------------------------------------Samir Jasarat(Because signing your name after a post, actually looks pretty cool.)
Cassidy gave a great definition for geography as she says that it is "the study of earth across DIFFERENT regions". Its great she pointed out the uniqueness of Geography in her definition.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Justin Beskin on how geography can isolate people from different idea's. This can really affect a societies personal pride about their system of control over their people.

ReplyDeleteGeography is the study of the earth's surface, features, climate, population , etc.
ReplyDeleteA positive impact geography might have around the world which is one of the most ideal in our world today that even dates back to history is the benefit of trading/trade routes and farming. A negative aspect on geography would be of course isolation from other civilizations and lack of interaction. Another negative aspect in which would fall on those close by water would be hurricanes and such hitting the land.
India is a triangular peninsula that touches three bodies of water , the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian sea and the India Ocean. It maintains a tropical climate with temperatures said to be go as high as 120 degrees F. It is home to the Himalayas, the world's highest mountain chain which borders the northern tip of it & separates it from the rest of Asia and China causing isolation and lack of cultural diffusion. Isolation from the rest can be seen as a good thing though for being able to maintain & stick to their religion and customs.
The geography of India has positively affected Siddhartha. "Siddhartha learned something new at every step along his path for the world was transformed and his heart was enchanted" (pg43). Whether it was the mountains, the rivers or even the sky , Siddhartha's journey has brought a growth in his knowledge maybe a change of heart ("his heart was enchanted") which would have enabled him to view the world in a different and better way than before.
Although I stated India's geography having had only a positive impact to Siddhartha I agree with Blanca in it having both in regards to the climate. Enduring desire would be seen as positive because that is something he must foresee in his religion but negatively as well because of pain.
I agree with Carol that geography has a positive impact on survival. When I think of geography, people & civilizations first thing that comes to mind is trade because we learn and hear it about it all the time but now I definitely see survival an ideal as well. Such as natural resources & everything surrounding us that helps us live.
Wow, awesome comment right there.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Vanessa Song's statement ''One positive impact geography has on people is that there is fertile land if near river. Many tribes or villages settle near water so they can grow crops and survive.'' This is true, because they survive on the four F's which are fresh water, fish, farm, and fertile soil.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with Iqra's statement of what geography is ''Geograpy is the study of the eartth, it's structure an it's inhabitants.''
Geograpghy is the study of the features of the land. It includes the enviroment, popuation, climate, and other physical features of the land. A positive impact geography has on some people is giving them the benifit of living next to water. This allows them to fish and trade. A negative impact is that some people live in freezing temperatures which dosen't allow them to grow food. India can be cold or hot depending on the season. India is an isolated country. India being isolated has protected it from getting so many invasions. India also has many mountains. These mountains seperates parts of India. Therefore, India is not under one goverment. The climate of India has effected Siddhatha in a positive way. "Siddhartha stood silent in the vertical blaze of the sun, burning with pain, burning with thirst, and he stood till he felt no pain or thirst. He stood silent in the rainy season... and the penitent stood until his legs and shoulders were no longer freezing..."(p.14) The climate of the land gave Siddhartha practice in being able to overcome pain. Thanks to the climate he learned to overcome burning temperatures and freezing temperatures.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with Vanessa Song when she says, "The climate in India had a negative impact on Siddhartha...Due to the dry climate and hot temperatures Siddhartha had felt thirst and pain from the heat. This soon caused him to become numb and feel no pain." It's not a bad thing that after awhile Siddhartha felt no pain. That was the point of being a sammana. So in fact, the climate had a positive impact on Siddhartha because it helped him be a sammana like he wanted.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with Ka Yan Ou when she said,"The geography of India negatively affected Siddhartha in the novel. In the novel, Siddhartha was freezing because of the rainy season and had got wet all over." Again, it was a good thing Siddhartha was freezing because he learned to get over it and feel no pain, which was part of being a sammana. Siddhartha is proud of not being able to feel pain. Therefore, the rainy season did Siddhartha good by helping him get over the pain of freezing.
ReplyDelete1)Geography is the scientific study of a land and it's features.
ReplyDelete2)Geography has many financial benefits.Places with good land have access to more crops to sell while other places have beautifull sights that attract many tourists. For example one of the natural wonders of the world Niagra Falls attracts many tourist to visit Canada. One negative impact of geography is war and isolation. Many wars have started because countries claiming to own land. Geography can also keep people isolated from other places and people since they only know what's around them which is why those places are not as advanced.
3)India is located in South Asia. It is made of about six different climates. Indias nation has four seasons summer, winter, monsoon (rainy), and post-monsoon. During the summer temperature ranges from 86 degrees farenheit to 104 degrees farenheit. During thw winter some places in India are warm and cool while others are below freezing. India is surrounded by water. This is why most of their trade happens over their major bodies of water. India is also surrounded by mountains. The northern part of India is surrounded by the himalayas while the southern peninsular is surrounded by mountains isolating them from the other countries that border India.
4)One positive impact India's geography had on him was how it taught him new things. "siddhartha learned something new at every step along his path, for the world was transformed, and his heart was enchanted. He saw the sun rising over the wooded mountains and setting over the distant palm-lined shore. At night he saw the stars arranged in the sky and the crescent moon drifting like a boat in the blue. He saw trees, star, animals, clouds, rainbows, rocks, herbs, flowers, brooks, and rivers, dew glittering on the morning bushes, high and distant mountains blue and wan, birds sang and bees, wind wafted silvery in the rice paddys"(43). This showed how Indias geography taught him more about the world and his journey about finding himself and the earth,it also showed India was a beautifull place he admired.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Logan When he said that a positive impact of geography is isolation. Even though isolation can also be negative it is true that it can be positive. I agree that geography did help some countries stay safe and kept invaders out.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with bryanna that a negative impact of geography is how its climate can limit your resources. I agree because if you live in a place where the weather is always cold you are unable to frow your own crops.
1) Geography is the study of the land around around the world. There are 4 types of geography which are mountains, plateaus, hills, and the plains.
ReplyDelete2) Some positive impact of geography is that it can help you since you can grow crops quicker in the plains and people can be protected by the surrounding mountains so enemies wouldn't be able to invade that easily. A negative impact of geography is it can trap you into a piece of land and you would have a hard time trying to get out. That can limit the amount of natural resources you can have and cause alot of pollution if bad air can't get out.
3) India is a small country in the south of Asia but it happens to be one of the worlds most populated countries in the world. Also, India is considered the seventh largest country. This country is also close to the equator so the temperature would be very high during the summers and extremly cold during the winters. Many mountains such as the Himalayas surround the northern part of India. Because of that, India is a very isolated country compared to other countries that interact with each other. India has many trade routes since it happens to be partially surrounded by water and near by the silk road.
4) The geogrpahy of India negatively affected Siddhartha because their climate is affected by the mountains so it makes it difficult for Siddhartha to travel since the weather can be very hot or very cold.
